What was the Name of this Challenge?
 

Some time ago, several 2+2ers embarked on a challenge where one starts with $50 (I think?) at 0.5/1 and builds it to a certain point then moves up. If one loses a set amount at the next level, then he moves back down again and rebuilds, tries again and so forth.

Does anyone remember what this was called and how it worked?

you start with $250 and play .5-1, once you have $500 you play 1-2, once you have $1000 you play 2-4, etc

and sponger is wrong. it was more of a short term thing, not like a long term bankroll builder.

you start out with $50 playing .50/1, when you hit $100 you move to 1/2, when you hit $200 you move to 2/4, etc.

if you lose enough money you drop down in levels, etc.

It wasn't $25 at .5/1? Maybe this was a different one I was thinking of. This was just 25 BBs at each level. Over the course of 3 days of play.

Open Internet Challenge. Basic Rules:
 

These were the basic Open Internet Challenge "rules", although when The Gaming Club was funding everyone, and providing generous prizes, some of the rules were tweaked to make them clearer or fairer to all:

The game is Limit Hold'em, but it is the player's decision to choose between full-ring, shorthanded, or heads-up tables. No tournaments.

· You will begin with a $50 bankroll that you will keep separate from your regular bankroll for purposes of the OIC. You do not literally have to clear your account of everything save $50, but you must keep accurate records of the $50 bankroll you have set aside for the challenge.

· You will progress in limits according to the following structure:

-----> Start at .50/1 with $50 and play until you have $100.
-----> Move up to 1/2 and play until you have $200.
-----> Move up to 2/4 and play until you have $300.
-----> Move up to 3/6 and play until you have $500.
-----> Move up to 5/10 and play until you have $1000.
-----> Move up to 10/20 and play until you have $1500.
-----> Move up to 15/30 and play until you have $2000.

Completion of the Challenge! Buy yourself a Silver Cup and have it inscribed!

· IMPORTANT If at any point your bankroll drops below 25 BB's for the current level you are playing, you MUST drop down to the previous level and work your way back up. This is designed to prevent anyone tilting away a large pile of money. If you find yourself in this situation take a break, examine your play, and then drop down and work your way back up...remember you are honor bound to follow this rule.

· Multi-table play is allowed, but not encouraged (the whole point is to gain solid experience). If you choose to multi-table you may only have money equal to your OIC bankroll in play at any given time. (i.e. if you had $120 in your BR you could buy into 3 tables for $40 each)

· Anyone who participates may choose to quit the challenge at any point. The purpose of the challenge is to gain experience with limited risk; however, it is utterly foolish to get yourself into a situation where you are uncomfortable or don't have the best of it. Don't be stupid, there is no shame in quitting early.

As I'm kinda new here, this was the first I heard of this idea. So I decided to try it, because it seemed like a good way to get experience at multiple levels of play. After 266 hands on Party my $50 now stands at $106.75. I think it could have gone faster, but initially I forgot how loose these games were (raises get no respect etc.). Anyhow I was just wondering if anyone else was trying this now, and if so how are you doing? GL all.

I don't remember limits that way...it was like...40 bucks to 80 to 160 to 240 to 400

but then, you always have to deposit a min. of 50 bucks...so this makes more sense

I started it again...got to 160 and down to 120 - but I'll probably have to start again at 1/2....AFTER I get down to 80 bucks again.

You're right, Whiskey, but definitely a change for the better adding the MUST MOVE DOWN rule.

Not sure if you remember, but I was your compatriot that also made it to the $15-$30 level before the big crash-and-burn down to $0 [img]/images/graemlins/tongue.gif[/img] Better luck this time to you.

I tweaked Mike's OIC to try to do something similar with SNGs now- stuck on the $50s. SNG Challenge update
