pocket kings-played poorly?
I raised on the flop to gain information (which was stupid since he could easily put me on AK or AQ) and also to get a cheaper showdown. I figured the only hands that would call my river bet were hands that beat mine.

Re: pocket kings-played poorly?
I'd play it the same way. No way I'm folding unless villian shows a lot more aggression. And if I'm villian, I'd bet at this flop for information w/ any 6 or a lower PP and slow up when I got raised..

Re: pocket kings-played poorly?
I would play this hand the same way, except I would probably value bet the river since he has shown no aggression. I think it's much more likely SB has a lower pair or hit the 6 on the flop than it is he's holding one of those aces.
Would the river bet be out of order? |
Re: pocket kings-played poorly?
Im guessing he had an Ace, hence why you are asking if you played it poorly. I think that this is too results oriented thinking. Folding to one bet on the flop here would be very weak-tight, there's only 2 cards in the deck that give him a higher pair. I'd have played it the same way honestly..

Re: pocket kings-played poorly?
I like the line, if I had AQ I would pry re-raise the flop and see if AK bets out on the turn or caps it. So i think your biggest wory is AJ, Axs since they were boath in the blinds. I would probably check the river as well, tho I supose you could bet again hoping to fold out Ax, tho I would think that if they were going to fold they would have done it on the turn.

Re: pocket kings-played poorly?
once it's HU, i'd just call down. if he's bluffing, keep him bluffing. if he's got trip 6s or the 3rd Ace, you lose the least.

I raised on the flop to gain information... [/ QUOTE ] Why? You probably have the best hand. Betting for information is a concept that should be used rarely. You never do it JUST to get information. I mean if you have 32o in the BB you can bet a flop of AJK to get information, but that would be pretty dumb. You have to do it in conjunction with other reasons. Here, you correctly raised the flop, but you apparently did it for the wrong reasons. This is a raise for value (mostly). [ QUOTE ] I figured the only hands that would call my river bet were hands that beat mine. [/ QUOTE ] You mean like J6[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]? Seriously, you are good enough often enough here to value bet this river. If the flush draw came after a 2 flush flop I might feel differently. |
Re: pocket kings-played poorly?
i like it, why did you think you played it poorly?

Re: pocket kings-played poorly?
The raise on the flop sucks.

Re: pocket kings-played poorly?
I think this is bad advice. You should raise this flop.

A few responses:
Note that I didn't raise SOLELY for information, I also assured myself a cheap(er) showdown by being able to check through the river, saving 1/2BB. What hands can villian reasonably put me on? AK-AJ, KK-TT, maybe 99-88 and/or KQ or QJ. I don't think J6o is going to be calling a river bet here. Or am I giving them too much credit? I could also be asking if I played the hand poorly by 1) missing a river value bet or 2) waiting to raise until the turn. Villian shows down Ad5c. |
Re: pocket kings-played poorly?
Looks reasonable. Villian is less likely to have an A when there are two on the board. I don't think you'd get much info with your flop raise though, because many players would c/r you on the turn w/ an Ace.
River check through seems wise. |

Villian shows down Ad5c. [/ QUOTE ] At least his weak play cost you less. I'd probably feel I should call this down if I got c/r'd on the turn. If he followed that up with a bet on the river, since a club fell, I might be able to fold. A read would help a lot there. |
Re: results
What if the villian were to 3-bet the flop? I'd probably fold in that situation, particularly with passive players. Would any sort of aggression from the villan on any streets force you to fold (besides the initial flop bet)?
|
Re: pocket kings-played poorly?
Looks pretty good. Maybe you should have bet the river since it's likely with his lack of aggression that he doesn't have an ace.
However, I think absolute's idea of just calling down on all streets is the way to go. If he keeps the lead you don't have to worry about nasty check-raises. |
Re: pocket kings-played poorly?
I play this the exact same on each street. nh.

Re: results
I think a 3-bet on the flop or a CR on the turn makes this a clear fold at this level. From what I hear a bluff turn CR at the more aggressive levels (3-6 and above, especially SH games) is not that unusual and would be worth calling down.

Re: pocket kings-played poorly?
Not a good flop for you at all, folding seems ok, but the raise is probably better.
Turn is good, I don't think SB would have a flush draw, I'm questioning the value bet on the river, I would probably check behind here about half the time depending on the player. |

Not a good flop for you at all... [/ QUOTE ] Hero would much rather see two Aces on this flop than just one. |
