Of course, now Woods has turned into Super-Duper-Weaky-Tighty. You'd think with his IQ of 184 he'd know that was a bad move.

agreed. watching it right now, chan is playing like sh1t. what was with that AK hand, wow.

Re: Johnny Chan = Pwned.

James has AJ against Johnny's AK. I think James limp-minraised Johnny's bet on the button. He was looking really strong and Johnny just called. Flop came ragged and Johnny checked. James moves in and Johnny folds face up. James shows the AJ offsuit and picks up Johnny's orange and stomps on it. Crowd goes nuts.

Re: Johnny Chan = Pwned.

Beginning of HU tourney. James Woods vs Johnny Chan. Not sure what the starting stacks are, but blinds are maybe $400/$800.

Woods open-limps in the SB with AJo, Chan raises to around $4000 with AKo, Woods minraises $4000. Chan does not go all-in, but rather calls.

Flop is 9-high rags, Chan checks, Woods goes all-in, Chan shows, and folds. Woods shows, and gets up to strut a bit.

And then turns into a super weak-tight pussy from hell.

Bad call by Jimmy Woods with the QT[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]

Grisgra 05-07-2005 04:48 PM

Woods, what the hell, man?

Wow, what a bad call by Mr. 184 IQ. Ugh. No way he could think he had 2:1 to call there.

Johnny caught a card on the river to put James on the brink, and then James caught his King on the river.

No idea, the reportage here sucked big time. I can understand the difficulty, the whole concept of broadcasting a poker game is pretty new, but a little stack size/blind size update every hand or two would have been nice.

Re: Johnny Chan = Pwned.

Well, Chan made it 5000 on the hand, indicating the blinds were likely in the 1000-2000 range. They show the pot size as about $39,000 and Chan wins. So, lets look at the hand like this:

Stacks: Chan 30,500; Woods 19,500
Blinds 1000-2000
Chan opens for 5K on the button. Woods moves in. Chan calls.

Re: Johnny Chan = Pwned.

They should really cap the blinds, that goes for all tournaments actually. The blinds should never be so high that you CALL an allin with K3s when the chips are about even.

The good news is that the stacks get deeper in the later rounds.

You would think that with an IQ of 184 he would also know to stop mentioning every five seconds that he has an IQ of 184.

Everyone starts with 20,000 in chips in the round of 64. I believe Chan had $20,500. I'm still dumbfounded by James Woods' all-in re-raise.

i have never seen anyone, besides Hellmuth, who likes to blow their own horn more than James Woods. guy is a self proclaimed genius.

Re: Johnny Chan = Pwned.

say what you want....

but I think his comeback in the Poker Superstars Invitational was one of the best ever - even when he was beat with a card that made his opponent's hand almost unreadable, he was smart enough to not lose all his chips with the 2nd best hand.

That impressed me.

Maybe we could ask D.S. for an IQ check on Woods

Re: Johnny Chan Dodged a Bullet

Woods does in FACT have that high an IQ. he also played a VERY tough match against yes, one of the World's best.

I not only enjoyed the match, show, but after @ 25 years of playing poker cannot imagine what a head up match against Chan might be like....I thought Woods represented himself very well.

As for the Aj hand, if Chan doesn't admit it WAS a tough call, he's not telling the truth.

Celebrities like Woods IMHO are good for the game, I hope he wins a whole lot of tournaments and more like he and Afleck fall in love with the game as many of us have.

my 2 cents.

Re: Johnny Chan = Pwned.

hands down, absolutely. Chan never ceases to amaze me. lost in the fuss over Gus' slaughtering of that table was Chan's own amazing performance. he was down to like 20k or something right away, and I was kinda disappointed, cuz I thought he was just gonna give up, but nope. fought all the way back. Gus got lucky on that last hand, though. shame, shame.

Really? I think Woods move in is right at that point. I'm dumbfounded by Chan's muck on the flop. One of the worst plays ever!

Re: Johnny Chan = Pwned.

Sorry, thought you were referring to the Ak Aj hand. Where woods is checked to with 16k in preflop and woods moves in for 10k. Chan folds. Chan should either move in preflop or move in on the flop. Otherwise shouldn't have called another 4k. And he never shoulda raised so much preflop if he was gonna play like a little girl after.

Hindsight is 20/20. If Woods had AA then Chan is a genius and everyone creates post after post about what a great read he made. If I'm one of the greatest pros of all time and I make a 10x BB raise and get re-raised the minimum by an amateur who says something like, "if I raise more then you can fold", I'm probably not going to want to call off the rest of my stack on a ragged flop with A high either.

Woods picked a good spot and represented a monster by following through. He made a good play and put Chan in a really bad spot for all of his chips. Even though Chan happened to get outplayed on this one and had a big pot stolen from him, the way he played it is completely understandable given the circumstances.

I'm sure some of the same people bashing him for not going all-in preflop or on the flop are the same ones that would be praising him for not going broke with the AK if Woods happened to have a big PP.

Re: Johnny Chan = Pwned.

In one of the interview segments of the Woods vs Chan matchup, Chan mentioned that Woods won a 150 player tournament recently. Anyone know if this is true or did I misheard? if so what tournament?

Re: Johnny Chan = Pwned.

T.J. cloutier was standing next to me when it happend and said he was shocked Chan played the hand that badly. That he didn't understand why Chan didn't move in preflop after woods raised. As he allowed himslef to get outplayed on the flop. He looked embarrassed for Chan.
