I hate online poker

After having played for two days on the internet, I have pulled out a wad of my own hair, gritted my teeth so much I believe I have ground down the enamel, clenched my fist and had to stop myself from hitting the computer, given "the finger" to the screen enumerable times. Rigged or not rigged, let me say, I F****** hate ***** online poker it's as painful as like razor blades under the fingernails, chinese water torture, or even worse, watching "celebrity poker" late at night with Paul Philips and Dave whats his name.

I'm sorry you guys who do well at it- I was literally ready to put my computer in vice. No way can that be on the up and up. No friggin way. I'm not going to list bad beats. No friggin way is that legitimate gambling.

1) Too many huge starting hands.
2) Too much action
3) Best hand changes every card
4) Company offers you free money to come and play
5) Someone has the nuts like almost every other hand.
6) Ridiculous hands one after another. quad 6's, set of 7's, AA's vs KK, straight flush.
7) Me always getting busted out on my all-in every single time in a tournament.
8) Getting stuck in key situations where you can not possibly fold, end up having to put your whole stack in there and getting shown some ridiculous hand. Example: late tournament, battle of the blinds, me BB 98 Sb 64 flop 982, me go all-in, 64 call?!?!, turn 6, river 6. Who the hell calls there with that hand???? And then hits, almost always.

I mean, they call big bets with nothing but like 3 outers and then they catch miracles. Who the hell calls a three raise cold with 3-8? And then beats KK with 3-8? Who the hell would want to play 3-8? It makes no sense.

I wish I had a jersey that said "F--- Online Poker"
God is that the most miserable poker experience I ever had.

Please dont call me an idiot. I am merely expressing my feelings about this awful "internet poker" which I think very possibly could be a sham. At the very least, if it is not a sham, it drives me f--- insane everytime I play.

Therefore, in the best interest of my sanity and my bankroll, I shall not every play on the internet again.

Everytime I think of d/l the software again I will think of
this day.

I hate online poker.

I know you guys hate when one of us beginners makes a post like this. I'm sorry. I dont mean to take anything away from what you guys do and if you guys can make money and still ENJOY poker playing online then more power to you.
But I sure as hell cant.

I swear to god I feel like telling the website, "Here, just take it. Spare me the aggravation."

No friggin way is that legitimate gambling.

[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, you have that backwards: it's definitely legitimate GAMBLING. For most internet players, each call is the same as pulling the handle on a slot machine. They don't know or really care about percentages or any of that voodoo. They want to take a CHANCE and hopefully get LUCKY. Folding bad cards is BORING. They saw a Party Poker ad on TV and now they want some EXCITEMENT, dammit!

Anytime you have random people playing random cards, anything can (and does) happen. And it happens more often, because internet play is so fast. The worst part may be that you can't put a nutbar on any particular hand, because he could be playing with anything, for any reason (clicked the wrong button, cards match his kid's birthday, wife says either double up on this hand or come to bed).

BUT...in the long run, if you are a good player and can recognize who's ultra-loose and who's not, and adapt your play accordingly, you will win and the loosies will lose. You'll have to have a tolerance for variance, though.

It's not for everyone, that's for sure. Sometimes it bugs me too. But every day I open up PokerTracker, which tells me I'm still ahead of the game, and I do my little happy dance.

Re: I hate online poker

I would have to say that on a "fun" scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being best, poker is about a 2 for me. However the alternative ( a JOB) is worse. Gotta take the bad with the good.

If it's rigged, it's rigged. If I'm being cheated somehow, then I'm being cheated. I don't have any way of knowing for sure; and I don't really care as long as I can show a profit.

Also it's a good practice ground for developing patience and tolerance. While a person might say "who needs 'em", unfortunately life has a way of dealing you a lot of bad beats at the same time (not just in cards) and a person who has not developed the mental muscle to withstand the downswings is in a whole world of hurt. Look at New Orleans, for example.

Re: I hate online poker

Thanks for correcting me- Phil Gordon/Paul Philips. I knew I screwed that up.

Celebrity Poker is pretty pathetic, isnt it?

I have since cooled off from my previous post.

I live in Detroit, where the rake in our B&M casinos is so high, the playing poker on the internet is very tempting.
You can beat the Detroit B&M games, but you have to have a very large bankroll, and you have to be willing to put in
many many many hours and put up with crappy dealers, must move tables, and everything else.

The internet is great as far as rake and everything else, but I have poor results and I cant deal with the frustration I described earlier. Probably I'm just an average player and average players arent going to be able to win much.

I'm going to go ahead and say a few words about the different web sites. Doyle's room and UB seem like they are the same software almost. True poker and Noble poker's animation is a pain in the ass. I never get any cards at Party Poker. Poker Stars and Full Tilt seem like I walked into a room full of top pros. Paradise and Bodog seem like they are the same software.

1) They offer you free money to come and gamble. This means, they must expect you to lose an amount at least equal to the deposit bonus. Does your local B&M casino give out these kinds of comps?

2) Too many good starting hands in tournaments.
3) Players making ridiculous calls and playing hands only a complete moron would make and winning.
4) "Luring" hands dealt at key times during a tournament which are designed to bust you out of the money. These are big pairs against lone blind stealers, BB huge flops which get outdrawn, and hands that normally too tempting good to fold and end up getting beat.

I admit, though, that the luck factor in Sitngoes is very large. If you are playing a sit-n-go against players with roughly the same skill, the luck factor is going to dominate. Since the blinds escalate so quickly, and you are constantly going to have to play hands which are usually 2-1 or 1-1 coin flips, the luck factor is going to dominate and only very skilled tournament players will be able to beat games.

Tougher players are on the internet. Tigther players, like me, who do well at the B&M against the friday night drunks, are going to be outplayed on the internet against "real" players. The loose retards who play for fun at the casino on the weekdays just arent smart enough or motivated to get an online account and play.

Re: I hate online poker

First...you're imagining a LOT of this stuff to find a reason for why you aren't winning.
The fact is, you just aren't a very good poker player (which you also acknowledged...but it really is just as simple as that).

you need to get out of 'conspiracy' mode.

Also:

[ QUOTE ]
They offer you free money to come and gamble. This means, they must expect you to lose an amount at least equal to the deposit bonus.

[/ QUOTE ]

For the most part...the amount that you play to earn this bonus is worth more to the site in rake then the actual bonus itself.
It isn't a huge profit for them...probably close to break-even much of the time.
But it's not like they are just GIVING away $100 (usually).

1,000 raked-hands to clear the bonus is plenty for them to make a little bit of profit on it.

Example - if you play 10 handed at a table that has an average rake of $1.50 per raked-hand then you are essentially contributing $0.15 per raked-hand.
Yet you are only clearing $0.10 of your bonus per raked-hand (if it's 1000 raked-hands to earn $100 for example).

there are better bonuses out there than $100 for 1k hands of course...just showing that the sites are not 'giving' away as much as it might, at first, appear.
They do quite well for themselves...and obviously they are still worthwhile for the player too a lot of the time.

They expect to make back the money in rake, and rake doesn't care who wins, only that you play. Free money helps generate rake, as do redeposits.

B&Ms have other, often better comps. Free room, meals and drinks at the Mirage vs. $100-max reload bonus? Hmmm...

You need to get PokerTracker and actually check this. I think over >10,000 hands you'll find your perception differs distinctly from reality.

Unless you think that PokerTracker is in on the conspiracy, that is.

I swear to god I feel like telling the website, "Here, just take it. Spare me the aggravation."

I originally wrote a mean response, but after reading through all the other responses, I'll edit it.

I actually think I know this person, if your name is Justin, and you wear a different kind of hat(non baseball hat) and have long long long curly hair and are slightly bigger.

If this is the OP, I've played with you at MCC at 5-10 and 10-20 a few times. I usually have a large stack of chips and a M hat on and I don't shave enough.

The sad thing is, if this is you, I think you are one of the better players at MCC. If even you think that online is rigged, I can only imagine what horrible players think.

All I can say is, if online is rigged, i hope it stays the same, because my credit card bills are unrigged, my tv and car is rigged, and my girls ring is rigged. Thank you rigged poker.

It's good when they have someone entertaining on, like Penn Jillette. I don't watch for the poker and avoid the episodes with no one interesting.

Mimi's boob's are two good reasons to watch!

Variance does not exist in poker; therefore, what appears to be your bad luck is clearly really a sign that online poker is rigged.

Well of course it's rigged--in our hearts we all know that--but we are all in denial. It's less depressing to think that our huge losses stem from our lack of ability (which is somewhat under our control since we can work to improve) than to face the reality that we are in fact totally powerless to survive against THE RIG.
