Joe Hachem Book
[ QUOTE ]
Joseph Hachem: (5:34 PM ET ) Question for all of you. If the audience wanted to read a book by Joe Hachem, would you want a how-to book or a personal experience book? [/ QUOTE ] Since I am the computer equivalent to a donkey, if anyone else finds this interesting, perhaps they could make a poll and we could find a way to get it to him. Just two choices, really, how to book (so that we can get into his head and find out how the champ thinks) or a personal experience book (his story is probably interesting, he's an immigrant to Australia, has some rare medical disorder that caused him to no longer be able to work as a chiropractor). I'm sure Sklansky could see to it that he sees the results of the poll. |
Re: Joe Hachem Book
A strategy book would be preferable.
Think his book will be out before Raymer's? |
Re: Joe Hachem Book
If it's gonna be how-to, it's gotta be something we haven't seen a million times already before.
|
Re: Joe Hachem Book
It should be called:
"Joe Hachem: Pass the Sugar!" |

It should be called: "Joe Hachem: Pass the Sugar!" [/ QUOTE ] Sugar! Sugar! Sugar! Oy! Oy! Oy! Is there any indication that he is capable of really thinking about poker theory and explaining it to others? That's not a put-down; you can do stuff without being able to explain it. I haven't watched the last few shows of the WSOP yet, so I don't even have a shadow of a personal opinion about Hachem's ability to play. I think Sammy Farha is a great player, but I think he is street smart and I doubt he could write a good instructional book. Raymer, on the other hand, is obviously a thinker about the game, and very good at explaining it. |
Re: Joe Hachem Book
I will definitely read anything that Raymer writes. However, I think it would be very interesting to know the thought process each of them went through in defeating enormous fields to become champions. What was there overall philosophies, strategy, reads on players, what adjustments they made, how and why.

Re: Joe Hachem Book
He seems like a very interesting character. I hope he writes a book that is a mixture of both. Something similar to Matros's book.
The most important thing is that if he can't write well, that he doesn't try to do it all himself. |
Re: Joe Hachem Book
The man is a doctor, so I'm not too concerned about his ability to think and write well. I'm sure if there are any problems, that would be taken care of in editing. I'm waiting for Raymer's book because I have a great deal of respect for the man and am interested in his thought process as well. I think there are enough books and articles available for ABC poker, what I would like to see are things rarely discussed and written about, such as, what goes through there head when making a decision (which is why Harrington's works are so masterful).

Re: Joe Hachem Book
This book would be absolutely horrible.

Re: Joe Hachem Book
What I would be interested is a book that combines combination of things...strategy, psychology, thought process etc...I mean raymer survived 2 of the largest fields .....that means he must know that something don't...if not for a bad beat he would have made 2 consecutive final tables through 2 largest fields in history...I think last year there were as many players as during the first 30 years of the event...I would like to know how either hachem or raymer approached each round....etc...how he applied different concepts of blinds relative to stack, other players at the table, position at the table relative to good players, number of players, etc....what were they thinking? How were they thinking of accumulating chips? what types of hands did they find most profitable? most troublesome? what types of strategies did they notice worked best....I understand a magician doesn't want to disclose his tricks but if they could answer at least some of these questions, it would be most helpful....
and because Hachem is a doctor it merely hints at his overall educational level..and probable intelligence which probably carries over to other things like poker....yes it doesn't make him a writer but as I said it speaks to his inteligence and drive.....8-10 years of education to become a doctor... |

Because all doctors can write well? Are you kidding? [/ QUOTE ] I do believe the ability to think critically and solve problems are traits of physicians. Doctors do have to express themselves in a clear, articulate manner. I would imagine most doctors can write better than the average person. |

Re: Joe Hachem Book
Sir, thank you very much. If I could have done that myself, I would have. I appreciate you taking the time to do it for me. Tell me where you play your live games, and the next time I'm in that area, I'll buy you a drink.

[/ QUOTE ] We have a wonderful state legislature that has blessed us with a wonderful law outlawing bets larger than $2 here in FL (Miami area) so I don't play much live. I never mind getting together with 2+2ers for a beer though. |

Re: Joe Hachem Book
One of the few states with no state income tax and a huge number of tourists, and a man can't go fishing. What a shame. Did you vote, by the way?

Re: Joe Hachem Book
My girlfriend told me that he is the best looking guy to win the world series of poker ever. He sure looks better than Raymer or Moneymaker. Maybe he could put some sexy pictures of himself in his book and go on all the daytime talk shows and deliver us a whole new school of girlyfish who want to play poker. [/ QUOTE ] That is rather results oriented... I love Greg (Don't worry not THAT way) and will buy his book, however if he didn't win his all in flush draw against the Mouth in 2004, he wouldn't have made it then. And you could have said if not for THAT bad beat then Matasow could have possibly made it to the final table two years in a row in the largest fields ever. But back on topic..I would prefer a personal book with a few of his thoughts on various stages of the 2005 Main Event. (Like Annie Dukes book, but this time written by someone who doesn't make me want to vomit in my mouth) |

[/ QUOTE ] Has she even seen pictures of all the guys who have won the ME? Is she really saying that he's more attractive than Varkonyi or a coked-up Stu Unger (RIP) or "Action" Dan. Make sure she has seen a picture of Russ Hamilton before she makes that statement. |
