high stakes poker on gsn?
saw an ad for this it looks like it could potentially be good if it's really just those guys playing a ring game with their own money and not lame tournament crap. maybe theyll even play other games like 2-7 or plo? or am i just getting my hopes up only to have them dashed?
i cant stand poker on tv because i really dislike tournaments, will this show be the one for me?? |

Re: high stakes poker on gsn?
The announcing team for High Stakes Poker on GSN is AJ Benza (former hack gossip reporter) and Gabe Kaplan, which certainly is a step up from previous GSN announce teams.

Re: high stakes poker on gsn?
This press release features the participants in the High Stakes Poker series.

Why would they agree to do this?
Tournaments are one thing- with the editing and stack-specific moves, you're not giving away a ton of information if people see your hands.
Why does it make sense for the pros to do this cash game on TV? What are they getting out of it that makes it worthwhile? |

Re: Why would they agree to do this?
they got like 1800 bucks an hour. Number might not be right, but basically they are doing it b/c they got paid.

I'm under the assumption that they could get this kind of game on their own, or play their regular 2000/4000 game or whatever they want. What do they gain from the TV exposure? More so than tournaments, I would think that holecams would give away a lot of information in cash games that those pros really don't want to reveal. Anyone have an answer? It's not just the draw of the game itself, is it? |

Re: Why would they agree to do this?
Most of them showed up just because they heard Phil Hellmuth would be there!

Anyone have an answer? It's not just the draw of the game itself, is it? [/ QUOTE ] The hourly rate was secondary (like 1500/hour). It's the TV exposure ... Negreanu (and others) probably makes more through endorsements now than he does playing poker, and he only has this opportunity because of exposure like this. |
Re: Why would they agree to do this?
[ QUOTE ]
The players were also paid an hourly rate to be part of the show that ended up being about $1250 per hour. [/ QUOTE ] I want a cut!! |
