Busting your friends (duplicate from Poker theory forum)?

At the MGM this weekend and I just sat down with a friend of mine who is an extremely good player.

We don't cheat, we don't collude, but we do try to stay out of eachothers way. It's bad for the game if we play strong against eachother + there were more than enough donks @ the table to take money from.

Under the gun I post to enter the game (bad strategy but I wanted to make it look like I had no idea how to play). 2-5 blind $500 no limit game @ the MGM (great room BTW... check it out).

I pick up AA under the gun in my post (amazing) and advertise the fact that I'm trying to get my post back, raise to $30.

One caller, my buddy in the BB makes it $100.00 I know my friend will do this with exactly three hands AA, KK, or QQ. I call hoping to get the other caller to come in and play. Other caller folds... and I "waive off my buddy with my eyes"

He checks to me on the flop... I bet $150 and he thinks about it for a long time.

He fold his hand... tells me later he had KK and that I should have busted him for all his money.

What are your thoughts...

keep in mind we don't really have a standing agreement, but we do try to stay out of eachother's way with drawing/speculative hands.

Should I have just busted him in this situation?

It's just money right? You guys obviously aren't friends.

his saying "you should have busted me" = "if the roles were reversed i would have taken all your chips and not felt bad in the least."

take it for what it's worth, and don't play at his table if you're not comfortable stacking him.

raise PF, if he wants to come for a ride, allow him to.

My mistake... he would have waived me off also (whether I fold or not is my choice)...

What he meant was that if I was anyone else he goes bust.

Is it just me or do these statements contradict each other?

Exactly, the outcome of the hand had no bearing on anyone else but the two of us.

u should enjoy busting your friends. if its within both of your bankroll, it should be nothing but a buy-in. you get to rag on him later. if its out of your bankroll, that changes things i guess.

in home games i always go out of my way to bust my friends, and they do the same to me

but of course, we're only playing with like fifty buck stacks

In homes games it different...the same $5,000 has been filtering around the 8 or 10 of us for years.

But in a casino with 5-6 donks at the table... I prefer not to bust the only guy I have to ride home with.

rebuy yo....AA vs KK who cares.

The bigger question is: is it ethical to waive your friends off the pot with your eyes when you are bluffing?

bust his ass then pay for a nice dinner, get him f-ed up on his favorite booze, and then pay for lap dances till he passes out.

i will bust anyone who's at the table with me if i got the chance. just don't let it be personal and if he's a good guy, he'll appreciate the fact that you're blowing all his money showing him a killer time in Vegas.

If you know he can afford it then bust him. If you know its money he can't afford to lose then don't allow him to sit in the game if he is your friend.

Ive taken an unreal amount of money from BobboFitos in home games. I called an all in from him once with bottom pair on the turn and said "show me your straight draw."

nonetheless, i stacked him.

Not that we should clutter the forum, but if "unreal amount of money" is 10 bucks, then yes, dave, you own me.

I think it's unethical to play differently against someone at the table because he is your friend. In the instance stated, it wasn't too big a deal, but it could have been if the other caller came along for the ride.

Bust him, you could decide what to do later, ie. give it him back if you feel bad about taking your friend's money, loan him to buy back in, whatever. But I think at the table you should play your A game against every player and not make concessions for friends.

Re: Busting your friends (duplicate from Poker theory forum)?

Funny story, a couple months ago I played a $60 buyin tourney at the Sahara with my two friends. We all ended up at the same table. I caught incredible cards the whole tourney (among other hands, made quads twice within 4 hands early on, taking a player out each time). With 13 players left, my friends were also still in it, but just barely. 11 make the final table and are in the money. I remember saying something to my two friends like, "Come on, guys. Hang on, you're almost there." This prompted a response by a player to the effect that he did not know nor approve of the fact that the three of us knew each other. The guy even half jokingly called over to the tourney director to ask if he knew about this.
Of course, on the next hand, under the gun my first friend goes all in, and then my other friend goes all in. I look down at the button to see a couple red aces.
Needless to say, it was a very uncomfortable ride back to the hotel, but just as someone else recommended, I treated them to booze and lapdances later on, so it was all good.

i try as hard as possible to bust my friends.

if i succeed, then ill rib them about it afterwards during dinner and drinks, which are on me.

now as far as paying for their lap dances, well, it had better have been a big pot.
