\"WSOP\" and \"World Series of Poker\"

I could understand why people would rather write "WSOP" instead of "World Series of Poker". The former is much more convenient.

What I can't understand is why people would rather say "Double You ES Oh Pee" instead of saying "World Series of Poker". There are six syllables for each but saying "World Series of Poker" is much clearer and unambiguous.

Why is shorter better? Are you rushing headlong to your appointment with your tombstone?

Who cares?

It's the lazy pe;ple that are the most efficient.

We can learn a lot from watching how a lazy person would do things.

NOT to equate being lazy with having one leg, but Dave Atell has a joke about only asking directions from one-legged men, as you know they know the most efficient way of getting from Point A to Point B.

WHat about "double u double u double u" vs. "world wide web" 9 syllables instead of 3. (BTW, I know some folks you say "dub dub dub"

Re: \"WSOP\" and \"World Series of Poker\"

maybe because typing world series of poker takes a lot longer than typing wsop but saying wsop takes less than a second longer than saying world series of poker.

I've never heard anyone say each letter in WSOP. If someone did, I would laugh at them.

What do they usually say? WSO, WS, W? I think MOST of the time I hear it spoken, its all four letters. Please don't laugh at me.

I frankly just like how GWB sounds, plus it gets double bonus points for confused out of towners who wonder why I am driving over the president.

Those are both 5 syllables.

I've never heard anyone say out WSOP. They usually just say the World Series of Poker, or shorten it to the World Series if it's already been established we're talking about poker.

Whenever I see, 'WSOP', I always pronounce it in my head as "Wa-Sop".

Re: \"WSOP\" and \"World Series of Poker\"

The letter "W" should be banned, or at least renamed so that it could be pronounced using only one syllable. I suggest it should be pronounced "wu" not "double u". Once this has been accomplished, 40% could be saved from the pronouncement of "George W. Bush" and 33.3% could be saved from the pronouncement of "WSOP". More importantly, all speeches, news reports, audio books, and lectures all over the world would all be shorter.
