The Official King of the Zoo NLHE Championship Thread

Today is the last KotZ of the year and it's our Championship edition. That's $50+1 NLHE and you get 2500 in starting chips. It appears to be a race for 2nd for the overall points lead. jpg777 has a comfortable lead and only UncleDuke has any chance of catching him. And to catch him Duke will need to win the event outright in a field of at least 19 players and then hope jpg777 doesn't show up (which he hasn't the last two events). Of course, that's exactly what Sheriff Fatman had to do last year to claim the crown, so we'll see if tonight's event turns out as dramatic as last year.

Remember, there is a runner-up trophy, too, and there could be some competition there. Good luck to all playing tonight and I look forward to continuing the tradition next year.

Good job again this year, Ed. I appreciate your efforts.

Also good to see that I have a shot at 2nd place, *and* a chance for bragging rights if I end up as top money winner.

WOrk sucks guys. Won't be able to make it tonight. I wished I got into more KotZ tournaments this year after a decent end of 2004. Good luck everyone!

I have a few questions.

1. Can anyone from 2+2 join? If so, what is the password?

2. How do you make a $50 buy in tourney with only $1 vig? Also how do you alter the starting stacks like that?

Thanks.

Be warned - winning this thing is a poisoned chalice with regard to the following year's event! At least my cursed period will be over after tonight!

Just wanted to say thanks to Ed for his efforts with this over the current year. Looking forward to the next one!

Because we're elite!

Seriously, when this was started it was one of the first, if not the very first, private tournament Stars allowed. Since then, we've been given special treatment by Lee Jones and the management at Stars and they cut us this special break. All our tourneys are $1 vig. To end the year I should give a shout out to Stars, still the best software and support on the net, for allowing us this break and for hosting our event going on our fourth year!

Normally, all KotZ events are T1500 w/ 20 minute levels. Our Championship for today features 2500.

I guess I mean do you have a drop down box or empty box were youu can choose whatever amount of starting chips you want? I dont have options to choose starting stacks thats why I was wondering.

BTW, just signed up for mailing list.
Thanks.

Sorry, misunderstood your question in the first response. I don't set these up using the Stars interface. Stars support sets it up special for us with whatever we want. We have basically been "grandfathered" in since they always had to do this before they supported user created, private tourneys.

We can run any format Stars offers and we are taking advantage of that next year with a double shootout, two rebuys, two 6-player events and two T2500 tourneys. Hope you can join us for next year's race for the trophy.

Yeah, that was a tough one, Toro. I was praying that you caught a piece of that and would raise me on the turn. Nothing like a nice Stars cold deck to end the season, huh?

All Hail The Champ...jpg777!

Not much of a climax here, he basically had this wrapped up months ago. He just finished 9th, but UncleDuke had already made an early exit when he had to win to have any chance and we have a NEW KING! Here is what his majesty will be receiving (courtesy of our sponser www.rakerebatereview.com):

Well I've had a pretty good year in the KOTZ, but I've also had a few well timed suckouts. Thanks to our TD Ed for running this thing, and I hope to see everyone next year.

After receiving last years runner-up trophy I was shooting for the 1st place this year but apparently came up a little short. Don't know if tonites 1st place finish will get me 2nd place again, but I would like to congratulate JPG for his overall 1st place finish and birdybirdy along with wayabypar for a good contest this evening and again thanks to eMark for all the effort involved in running the Zoo tournaments.... Yes many congrats to JPG and thanks to Ed. I wish I could have played in more of these this year. And congrats to last nights winners, you guys last night were too tough for me as I got to be bubbleboy. When we were down to 5 that was some very intense poker that seemed to go on forever as the stacks stayed pretty even for quite a while.
