People in Atlanta (Gas Prices/Shortage)

If u havent seen...gas has gone up 50 cents in a matter or hours and they are having to ration it out in some places, what i was told is that most of the oil/gas trucks were hit by the hurricane...and that prices were going to continue to go up. This morning i saw it at $3 when I just went to get gas (because I just found out) it was at $3.50 for me and the owner said it would climb 50 to 70 more cents by tomorrow and that he was shuttin down his pumps at 3pm...let ALONE the gas lines we had to wait in just to get gas...so If u need gas get it now!!! Im sure it will stabilize later..but if ur near empty hope the heads up helped!
Usually gas prices dont matter much to me b/c i HAVE to have it...but if i know its gonna increase in the next few days i fill up now...figured some of u would wanna do the same

Im sure this is the same for much of the south

Im was tempted to use regular

HMMM.

I just checked the two gas stations across the street from my work:

Chevron: $2.73
Exxon: $2.91

Interesting indeed.

It was $2.71 on Mercer Island, WA this morning, no line. Just saying.

Re: People in Atlanta

yeah...some of them havent changed prices on thier signs...and a girl told me about it and i was like calm down ur over exagerrating...but the place i went was 30 cents more than it said outside and the dude said its just gonna climb

This is what i was told by others and the gas owner...so who knows whats what...but better safe then sorry...thought id let others know...hopefully it doesnt keep going up

But i know it was serious cause ive never waited in line for gas EVER or maybe people over paniced...i just needed to make sure i had enough for the rest of the week

Meh, so much scare tactics. Atlanta has 10 days of fuel reserves on hand right now. They've been working off them for 2 days, which would mean there are 8 days left. Also, I remember hearing that we'd be getting more by next Tuesday, which means it shouldn't be an issue as far as need.

Of course, my smart self filled up Sunday, and still has 80% of a tank. Unfortunately, I don't know if I'll be going down to Auburn for the game any more

In end of days scenarios, it is better to get an assault rifle. Then you can get all the milk, eggs and toilet paper you need.

CNBC showed the gas prices shoot up this morning. The damage seemed to be limited as the day went on. The gas prices should only rise about 10-15 cents short term. This $3+/gallon is a 1/2 day thing

Re: People in Atlanta (Gas Prices/Shortage)

Line your truck bed with a tarp, empty the gas pump, watch people cringe in horror, then charge them $4.50/gallon from your front yard. They have to siphon it themselves.

Well, I'm no gear head, but won't the knock sensors back off the compression? Or is there a degradation in mileage to take into account?

it will run but what ive been told by my mechanic is that i should not b/c of the car as it is stock (better for the parts/engine/etc) but he told me definately not to because of exshaust alterations (no clue why this matters) and the fact that its super charged

he told me if i switched that i needed to for good or for a long time because he said switching back and forth would hurt it alot

It was just on CNBC. Apparently, there is a Colonial pipeline that supplies 75% of the gas to ATL.

They also decided to let gas tanker trailer drive 24/7 to get the gas there. Can you say fireball?

The sole reason you need higher octane gas is because it's supercharged. See here.

My drive home today was a mix of amusement and laughter.

Every gas station had lines completely around them and people hollering at each other and honking at each other.

It was quite the spectacle.

The farther away from Atlanta I got, the better the lines were but they were still there.

Good times.

Reminiscent of the gas shortage back in teh day.

I just drove to school, and all I have to say is ditto. Yeah, the prices suck, but people are going absolutely apeshit about it.

Perdue said there is no reason to panic about gas shortages and rising prices. He told reporters that fuel shipments are continuing to arrive at Georgia ports, and that Colonial Pipeline, the largest pipeline distributing fuel into Georgia, expects to be largely operational by the Labor Day weekend.

"There does appear to be some spot shortages in unbranded, spot-purchasing service stations," he said. "We expect that to be a temporary problem.

"There is no reason to panic. There is plenty of gas on the way. The only way we would have problems is if people rush out and try to hoard and try to accumulate gasoline they won't need for a while."
