ATo always ridin my arse

Absolute $1/$2 8 handed

Hero is UTG+2 with A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]10 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]

Preflop:
2 folds, Hero calls, 1 fold, MP2 raises, Button folds, SB calls, BB calls, Hero calls. (8 SB)

Flop:
3 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]J [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]9 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]
SB checks, BB bets, Hero calls, MP2 raises, SB folds, BB calls, Hero calls. (14 SB)

First bet, I had BDFD (1.5), BDSD (1.5), and overcard (1.5) giving me 4.5 outs. This is a close call, but maybe with implied odds?

Turn: A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]
BB bets, Hero calls, MP2 folds. (9 BB)

River: 9 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]
BB bets, Hero raises, BB reraises, Hero folds. (14 BB)

Awfully played?

Eh, I just fold this flop, such thin value if any.

As for the river, why bother raising there? Just show down.

Raise or fold preflop. I don't understand that river.

yea, the river is awful. I dunno what I was thinking.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of ATo, especially from EP. I just fold this one pre-flop.

What can you really do with ATo? No flush possibilities, very limited straight possibilities as it's a 3-gap connector, and the T is a relatively weak kicker if you do spike TP...

Preflop:

ATo sucks unless you can attack the blinds with it. Just fold.

Flop:

You have no implied odds if you're calling a bet with players still to act behind. Don't call so slim when someone might raise or is likely to raise behind you.

Turn:

Vaguely ok if you're just calling for the right reasons. If you're not sure whether you're ahead or behind, there's nothing wrong with calling and keeping in the overcards/underpair from the preflop raiser. If he has AK, you're in trouble either way. If the bettor has you beat you're in trouble either way. But if you have them beat then you should raise for value instead. Considering the flop action, I'd guess you're ahead when the Ace falls, so I would usually raise here.

River:

Awful.

easy preflop raise.

should fold flop with preflop raiser yet to act.

I would have played it like this:

Preflop I wouldnt open with ATo at UTG+1, I only play ATo in late position ( and even then I most of the time do it with a sigh knowing that I'll probably will regret it ).

Flop: fold.
Turn: Raise - if BB reraises, get out.
River: Why raise here in the first place if you didnt raise on the turn?

okay this isn't addressed to only you, but to everyone who said not to raise preflop.

what is UTG+1? stop thinking about this, and think of how far off the button you are. it's 8 handed and there have been two folds. work your way back:

bb, sb, button, co, hijack, me.

this equates to it being folded to you in MP2 at a ten handed table.

please raise.

Re: ATo always ridin my arse

You can only take one maybe two coldcallers if you raise that ATo early position. If you're playing in these loose games, that's not going to happen. Calling is wrong, raising is wrong, so its an easy fold.

Fold the flop. It's pretty likely MP2 is going to raise after you like he did.

Raise that turn. You're going to pay at least two bets to get to showdown anyways..., try and kick out MP2. If you get 3-bet, its an easy fold. BB just hit aces up. I think you know what you did wrong on the river.

Raise Ato preflop? Why would we raise in MP with ATo in a loose game? Is this an equity raise?

GTSamIAm 12-21-2005 10:26 PM

Re: ATo always ridin my arse

You wouldn't open raise MP with ATo against somewhat tight opponents? I think I'd do it against most microlimit players, anyways. You know you're going to outplay them.

Eeegah 12-21-2005 10:26 PM

Re: ATo always ridin my arse

Partially. It's also the best too we have to get this as few handed as possible, where ATo shines.

I don't always play ATo, but I will never limp it.

eg.
We raise preflop with ATo in MP. An LP calls our raise. The flop is:

4 6 A

LP calls all our bets to the river.

What does he have? How can we outplay them when we don't know if we're best or not?

GTSamIAm 12-21-2005 10:36 PM

Re: ATo always ridin my arse

You outplay loose, bad players by playing more aggressively where they do not and tighter where they do not. On that board, LP could have a pocket pair or weaker ace. LP could have you outkicked but it's unlikely since he's LP. I'd play that board exactly the same as you said.

I hear what you're saying.

what's this mean?

His postion doesn't determine is hards. I know you aren't trying to say this, but this is what I'm reading.

Yeah, that's right.
