Preparing for skool

I go to a new school in about 2 weeks. My mom and dad want to do school shopping. I will be boarding, but the school is only 25 minutes from my house. I will have a single room (most likely a loft, but the room is still pretty small). This will be my third boarding school but the first two were jokes (I wore whatever I wanted to all the time). So what I'm asking is for those of you with boarding experience (even college I guess) how many clothes you had. Oh yeah, the school has a dress code that says you have to wear a collared shirt to classes. And my friend just informed me that you can only wear jeans "without a belt loop" which I didn't know exsisted. So there's that. When I say how many, I mean like a number of collared shirts, regular t's, undershirts, pants, etc. I'm terrid at planning.

Also, I need a computer for school. I won't be playing games on it (until summer when i'll be playing p*ker). Just like internet, microsoft works, dl'ing music, that sort of thing.

Also any other cool things for a room would be appreciated. I don't have much room to work with. I don't think I'm allowed to have a fridge which is brutal.

Re: Preparing for skool

Three questions:

1) How often are you willing to do laundry?

2) Will you ever want to put games on the computer (like in summer?)

3) Do you know anything about computer hardware (i.e. do you have at minimum a foundation under which to learn how to build one)?

I had a dress code in HS. I probably had about 4 pairs of pants I wore regularly, and about 7-8 shirts. Collared of course.

These sound sweet. I would suggest getting about 10 pairs and a few t-shirts. That's all you should need for the year.

I'm pretty good about laundry, but I think I'll probably take it home every couple of weekends for my mom to do

Only p*ker, I don't play computer games

I'm pretty much the least knowledgable person about computers ever.

The only beltless jeans I've ever seen were on girls so I think that may be some sexist rule. I dunno though.

Oh yeah, I also have to actively participate in sports so keep that in mind.

You should see if you can get some with an elastic waist.

Good school...that was on my list but they wanted me to repeat 10th grade. I actually would have gone there if it wasnt for that.

I cant tell you how much boarding school is going to prepare you for college. I go to Bentley and my first two years were comparable to my junior and senior year at cushing. GL!

I hate to break the news to you. But it's not "skool" and you should be shot for spelling it that way.

So does this mean no more retard school stories? Are you actually going to a school with normal students. I'm gonna miss hearing about the wacky thieving antics of your old classmates.

Based on the fact that they don't want the kids to have belts, I'm guessing it's not that normal. I wonder if they're allowed shoelaces?

This is the case. I think I'm going into a retard dorm though, so that may provide inspiration.

Re: Preparing for skool

From a utilitarian perspective, you only need more clothes so you can do laundry less often. So really your answer to my first question is the answer to how much clothes you should buy.

As to a computer; buy a Dimension 3000 and upgrade the monitor.

Re: Preparing for skool

Ideally you want 10 shirts, so you have 5 while the other 5 are at the cleaners/laundry/moms. 10 undershirts too.

4 pairs of pants ought to do you. You should look into removing the belt loops from a pair of regular jeans (I really don't get this rule).

You can get a pretty basic computer to do that stuff (incl poker). You probably want a cd burner on it, at least.

Other stuff for the room:
-cards/chips
-tv
-DVD
-dominoes
-dice (will there be drinking?)
-icebucket/small cooler (if no fridge)

It's near my house in MA. I will likely never move to FLA, it's more of a place that we go on vacation a lot to. We were very close to making a house in Davey our permanent location, but my brother hates FLA so we didn't.
