Pulp Fiction Question
What's in the briefcase? John |
Re: Pulp Fiction Question
I think it was the same thing Indiana Jones had when the Nazi's were chasing him. |
Re: Pulp Fiction Question
I read somewhere that Quentin Tarantino told his actors (it may have been an interview with Samuel Jackson) that when they opened the briefcase they should imagine they were looking at the greatest thing they could think of. Personally I think it is similar to the stuff in the trunk in Repo Man. |
Re: Pulp Fiction Question
It's called a "mcguffin", a term used in film study, which basically means it is more a symbolic thing than an actual physical thing. It could represent anything including riches (money, gold, jewels, etc), someone's soul, or any other number of things. I like to think of it as a shiny golden dildo that gives any woman who uses it a million orgasms. Now that would be a prize! |
Re: Pulp Fiction Question
i always thought it was the soul of marcellus wallace. there used to be an explanation to this, but i can't recall it now... |

Re: Pulp Fiction Question
Quentin Tarantino's ego. |
Re: Pulp Fiction Question
How 'bout diamonds from Reservoir Dogs. Remember the rescusitation seen? There are two games on the shelf behind them: Operation and Life. |
Ha! Like that could fit in a briefcase! n/m

Re: Pulp Fiction Question (link)
Odd, I was just thinking about that this weekend. I always thought it was Marcellus' soul, but someone else told me that that doesn't synch with the timeline of the film. I was going to watch again last night, but Paradise beckoned. Here's a link I came across this weekend: http://home.earthlink.net/~hidprod/qtfaq.html. JG |
Re: Pulp Fiction Question
Perhaps, but the bandaid also foreshadows the rape scene, I think. Remember that the first shot we see of Marsellus is from the rear. John |
Re: Pulp Fiction Question
I love a good exegesis as much as the next guy, but. . . I read somewhere (so it must be true) that Tarantino slapped the band-aid on at the last second because Ving Rames has a scar on the back of his neck. QT didn't want us obsessing on the scar, so, now we obsess about the band-aid! Murray Who loves PF to death. And who firmly believes that Samuel L Jackson should have won best actor, not just been nominated for best-supporting. |
Re: Pulp Fiction Question
Murray, It's not just the bandaid but the first shot of Marsellus, along with many of the subsequent shots, which show him from the rear. Agree on Jackson, and many of the other actors give fine performances. John |
Re: Pulp Fiction Question
PF is a classic. Can't wait for "Vega brothers" sometime next year i heard. Adam. |
Re: Pulp Fiction Question
Vega Brothers? You mean QT is filming a new flick featuring V and V? God, now I can't think of anything else until I see it. (I still get all goofy over the opening scene, beginning of music, of Pulp Fiction. Boy do I love that movie. Adam, any plans to play with your old pals at the HI? Lots of new blood/action/insanity. Murray |
Re: Pulp Fiction Question
Hey Murray, No plans to come downtown anytime soon. Bought a house out in Maple Ridge and stay pretty close to home and computer! Plan on buying a pick-up truck with a gun rack very soon... Good luck at Hi, Adam. |
Re: Pulp Fiction Question
Maple Ridge? Jesus, that's in Alberta, isn't it? Congrats on the house (and the wife, of course). And I'll be pleased as punch not to see you at the HI! all the best, Murray |
"Kiss Me Deadly"
No one mentioned the reference to the Robert Aldrich flick. Seemed obvious to me. (I also knew we were just never gonna see what's inside! Bravo, maestro.) |
