Well, not the best first week last week.... The end of the Lions game KILLED me.

Here goes week 2 (or 5) however we want to look at it:

$400- Broncos (Washington is by far the worst 3-0 team in a long time... could easily be 0-3)
$300- Bears/Browns Under (Unless the Bears can muster some O I think this a super good bet)
$200- Ravens/Lions Under (Just seems to obvious, but...)
$100- Colts (Another obvious one?)

This game is a mismatch. Eagles are rolling. Dallas is mediocre. Bledsoe cannot get them in the end zone enough, and Owens will chew up Dallas's underachieving secondary.

$300 Broncos -7

Redskins get their come-uppance this week. Redskins are another team that can't score, and Denver is tough at home.

$200 Saints +3

Green Bay can't stop anyone, as they continue to show week after week. McAllister, Horn, and Stallworth will have New Orleans putting up big numbers this weekend. Meanwhile, while Favre still shows flashes, have no confidence in a banged up and used up Ahman Green and a mediocre corps of receivers. And Green Bay's O line stinks.

$100 Lions -1

Baltimore is another team that can't score. They were lucky -- LUCKY -- to beat the steam train that was the Brooks Bollinger-led Jets, at home! How they give points on the road is a mystery to me. I like the Lions in a tight one.

All this talk of McNabb and Owens, while the defense continues to be the engine of this team. It's time to get over Dallas's defeat of San Diego in week one; they haven't looked particularly menacing since. The Eagles are just too much.

The Lions have at least occasionally looked threatening, if shakey, whereas the Ravens were way to happy to squeak by the Jets. Playing at home pushes the Lions over the hump they couldn't quite clear in Tampa.

4-0 is great, but when Cleveland was your toughest opposition, you still haven't proved that much. Jacksonville is tough and won't cough up five interceptions. Who knows, the Bengals might be for real, but I suspect that they're going to get taken down a peg on Sunday.

I like the Bills, so fade me.

Eagles - Terrified this will end up as a BSP, but they have to get one right eventually, don't they?

49ers under - Don't see why the colts will feel the need to run up a big score here, besides the '9ers defense is actually OK before it's made to spend 3/4s of the game on the field. Plus, with Smith starting his first game and the '9ers offence in general, I think the colts will have to score all 47 by themselves.

Bucs - Jets can't score, Bucs don't give up many points anyway.

Texans - They're not a good side, but then neither are the Titans ... and they impressed me with the manner of the loss to the bengals last week.

Eagles- line seems too low. Either this is a trap game, or I'm a homer, or... I'm not impressed with the Cowboys.

Jaguars- Bengals are due and Jags are at home. I'll give up less than a field goal to a team that hasn't played the greatest teams yet.

Colts- The last time the Niners played a good offensive and defensive team... they scored 3 points. If they can lose by 17 to the Cardinals with a veteran QB, they can lose by 14 or more to the Colts starting a rookie who looked bad during the preseason, even at home (where they haven't played the strongest of teams).

Colts under- I'll drink the kool-aid for another week.

Last week, I had the greatest rationale for my picks that anyone has ever had. There is no way to compete with it.

So this week I'm going off pure gut instinct, even if it leads me to pick the BSP Specials. I wanted to pick the Patriots +3, but as they're playing my favorite team and this game isn't for real money, I just couldn't do it. [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

In a Yahoo "Pick'em" league using confidence points last year, I was in the middle of the pack after 7 weeks in an active 30 man league. That's when I began using THE SYSTEM -- over the next 10 weeks, I had the highest score a ridiculous 7 times, along with 2 second place finishes. Needless to say, I won the league in a walk.

I've never used THE SYSTEM to pick games against the spread, but I'm expecting it to be successful. Ideally, I'd wait at least one (preferably two) more weeks for THE SYSTEM to accumulate information, but I'm in freefall here after my 4th consecutive losing week (3-13 overall, down $2400). Besides, THE SYSTEM really loves the road 'dogs this week.
