Re: Xmas Stars $530 +100k added tourny
If you'd win everytime by getting your chips in the pot with the best of it, I would have my seat too....
I guess there'll be a 500-750K prize pool |
Re: Xmas Stars $530 +100k added tourny
I hope to play. Chipleader right now in the $5R sat.

Re: Xmas Stars $530 +100k added tourny
Won’t be playing due to family obligations.
I would guess, that it will be rather light due to the holiday for others as well. Very surprised that if they want to give an overlay as a holiday gift (nice gesture), they don’t do it on a more reasonable day other than Xmas. Kind of sucks in my opinion. What are we suppose to do, have x-mas dinner with friends and extended family with the laptop fired up. What do others think about this? |
Re: Xmas Stars $530 +100k added tourny
I think this is kind of a weird decision on the part of PokerStars management. December 25 is the last Sunday of the month so ordinarily they would have their $500+30 tourney with a $700K guarantee. I imagine they figured they wouldn't get enough players to make the guarantee (because of the holiday), so they decided to turn that into a positive aspect that they could promote by calling it "$100K added". However, it might have been a better idea just to hold the $700K tourney on a different day (such as Saturday Dec. 31). I don't know that it's in PokerStars' best interest to create family strife by tempting their players to play in such a positive-EV tournament rather than spend time with their spouse, kids, or what-have-you on Christmas Day.
Anyone care to estimate how many runners this tourney will have? My guess is 1400-1500. If they do get 1500 entrants, the prize pool would be $850,000 or $566.67 per person on average. How does that affect your EV? I suppose for a good player who typically has positive EV in a $530 tournament, this promotion would be worth about $100 additional EV. A typical bad player probably has EV around -$200, so even with the added money in the Dec. 25 tournament, most bad players will not have positive EV. |
Re: Xmas Stars $530 +100k added tourny
I think they're adding $100K to help boost attendance, since they likely won't get anywhere near the normal Sunday turnout.

Re: Xmas Stars $530 +100k added tourny
I bet they still crack 2000 players.
Hey there are lots of people that dont celebrate xmas in a traditional way, spend it with family or whatever. I know I'm one that doesnt normally. This year I will be spending the time with nephews and they have been informed I will break them in two if I dont cash. heh. |
Re: Xmas Stars $530 +100k added tourny
wats interesting is 405 places are paid no matter how mnay entries
|
Re: Xmas Stars $530 +100k added tourny
Is the $3 rebuy the best method on getting in this one if I don't want to mess with 500 FPP?
|
Re: Xmas Stars $530 +100k added tourny
Is there a $3R? I did the $5R and won a seat my first try. Tourny wasnt too big but they still gave out 12 seats after all the rebuys and addons. Seemed like the way to go ro me.

Re: Xmas Stars $530 +100k added tourny
I did a "wee hours of the morning" (pst) 20r satelite and got in on first try. As chip leader too! heh, like it matters. 289 players reg'd as I post this...WAY WAY to early to say for sure...But I still think it'll be over 2000 players.

Re: Xmas Stars $530 +100k added tourny
Just got my seat in a morning 22r. Never played the big monthly before so I'm eager to see what it's like. I know it's Christmas, but the allure of a 100k overlay was too much...

Full Tilt $200K guarantee
No, but I just won a $6+.6 satellite to Full Tilt's January $200K guarantee. Anybody playing this?
|
Re: Full Tilt $200K guarantee
I would of thought regulars of the $215's from outside the US will be playing taking into consideration the time difference, I have no idea the breakdown of US v Other players.

365 and counting...baby we're free rolling!!

Re: Xmas Stars $530 +100k added tourny
This tournment is looking pretty juicy with the 100k added, think if someone were to pay for someones entry fee as a christmas present, hint hint, that second someone might be very thankful and give 75% of any winnings back to the original someone, nudge nudge, wink. Hehe, good luck all.

Re: Xmas Stars $530 +100k added tourny
A. I agree.
B. I see that the prize pool is "100,000 Added." C. Present prize pool is 250G+/- D. Usual guarantee is 700,000 E. This appears to be a clever way to avoid a huge overlay. Am I wrong? |
Re: Xmas Stars $530 +100k added tourny
Why, do the guaranteed tournies ussually not reach their guarantee? I doubt stars regularly has to add much, let alone more than 100k to make sure a tournament reaches it's guarantee.

[/ QUOTE ] I've never seen Stars NOT meet the guarantee. However, it being Christmas, the bean counters could have forecasted a low turnout for the 700K. Rather than having to put up a massive $200-$300K overlay, they hedged their bets by "adding $100K for Christmas." Makes sense to me. |

[/ QUOTE ] Yes, you are wrong. There is no law requiring a $700K-guarantee tournament on the final Sunday of the month. Nobody would fault the site for saying (for example), "in light of the Christmas holiday, this month our $700K-guarantee $500+30 tournament will be held on Dec. 26 [or Dec. 30 or 31 or whenever]". Aside from being $100K cheaper for PokerStars, this solution would avoid the long-term ill will that a promotion like this on Christmas Day is bound to generate. |
Re: Xmas Stars $530 +100k added tourny
I think it far too early to say it WONT make the normal 700k. It is the last Sunday of Dec. They hold the $530 on the last Sunday always and we know it. They would probably piss of more people if they moved it to Monday or some other day.
But by adding 100k to the prizepool no matter how many turn out they are saying, "we will hold this "regular" tournament and say thanks by adding $100k." To expect them to make it a 750k guarantee on xmas is ludicris IMO. Yet it could easily go over that number. I know for me the "added" is why I jumped in. Just looks like to big an overlay to not jump in. |
Re: Xmas Stars $530 +100k added tourny
I'm probably not gonna be playing, but let's not forget this guys: Not everyone celebrates Christmas, so why would they change their regular schedule just because some of the people who would normally play have a holiday that day. They don't change their schedule for big Jewish holidays or Chinese New Year etc. so why would they change it for this one?

BTW...we aint on a freeroll no more. [/ QUOTE ] It would not be a freeroll with 405 players. Prize pool would be $302,500 and last place would get 0.08% of that, $242, for a loss of $288. The break-even point for 405th place is 1125 entrants. |
How many chips?
Anyone know how many starting chips we get for this tourny? Is it the standard 1500? (I hope not)
|
Re: How many chips?
2500, 20 min levels

Re: Xmas Stars $530 +100k added tourny
1876 players...not bad....800+ for the minimum "in the money".
