My dilemma with going out to eat

I've worked in the restaurant industry for several years now. I started off flipping burgers, I've waited tables, and I've bartended. I've worked in numerous establishments. I also have many friends who work in the f&b industry as well. As a result of all this 'insider' knowledge, it makes me second guess where I eat food at. I've seen so many dirty restaurants, heard horror stories of servers messing with food... I just generally know what's going on at a restaurant, whether it be sit-down-and-eat or fast-food.

When I go out to get food, I rarely go to a chain restaurant. Generally those places are the worst with the exception of the fine-dining chain restaurant.

And I don't like fast-food joints because I know the food isn't good for me and I question the people who are preparing my food.

That pretty much limits the places I eat at to the restaurant where I currently work (it's a privately owned NY Italian Restaurant) and fast food places where I can see them making the food (Subway and Quiznos for example).

I really need to learn how to cook. 1: It'll save me money and 2: I'll avoid these problems I've discussed.

Be careful when you go out to eat. There's alot going on that many people do not realize. I can honestly say that I have never messed with anyone's food or drink no matter how much they've upset me. But that's not true for everyone. Be careful. Be aware that your server or bartender may be a jerk and could quite easily mess with what you're about to consume.

Did you read the post? I'm limited to where I can eat because places are so filthy.

thats not a dilemma. you already made a choice not to eat at places you consider filthy even though others eat there and are fine. thanks for the public service announcement, but i think ill continue to brave the harsh world of eating out.

You're right, the choice has been made. I still find myself sneaking to some of those places every once in awhile. Who can resist a double quarter pounder?

I think the important question is, does this warning apply to Chipotle?

I've never had the pleasure of eating at Chipotle.

I get the creeps thinking about things like that too. Restaurants can be harsh places to work, and since you can't really take it out on the manager if you're not willing or able to steal, it's the customers who are gonna get it whether they deserve it or not. And face it, we live in a rude world that's rapidly getting ruder, and customer service in general is at an all time low, so all of us probably eat food that's been everything but stuck up some guy's ass before, plenty of times even. And it'll keep happening too. I'm sometimes scared to send back a mistaken order(rice instead of potatoes, say), an undercooked steak, or undercooked chicken because I've heard so many chefs talk about how outraged they get when anyone questions them in any way whatsoever.

I try not to think about it. But I tell ya, I watch attitudes. I often go out to eat at places where I'm the only white guy, and if I get dirty looks there, I don't come back even if the food is good.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that Chipotle falls under the category of place where you watch them make your food.

I haven't been there in a while so if I am wrong don't hesitate to correct me.

meh, luckily if you don't notice whatever's been done to the food it really didn't have any effect, as it's probably not gonna make you sick, just disgusted.
