KQ 30 HAND. I PLAY BAD.

stars 5handed game.
everyone is playing LAG/bad. no unraised pots.

i open red KQo CO, aggro soso button threebets. he has prob noticed me raising light and this includes lots of J8s capping and such.... donkey sb calls, i cap it (obviously), they call.

flop 5h8h5x
check, i bet, button raise, sb calls two, i call.

turn Kh
check, i check intending to checkraise (told u guys i suck), button checks through.

river Kx
sb bets, i call...

yea in my experience a lot of mediocre LAG type players will check behind on that turn with a mid pair fearing AK. Also you don't really want 3 bets going in on the turn unless you plan on folding to a 3bet. River is good. Also there's a subset of bad lags who fold a mid pair to your checkraise (especially if pot is protected by other guy) which you dont want

I love the river call. I don't know what I would do diferently on the turn though.

And if your checkraise didnt wiff, you probably wouldnt have posted this hand.

But because it did, you now think to yourself 'was that really the best play'?

Re: KQ 30 HAND. I PLAY BAD.

if the turn and river were both non-hearts id raise the river. there would be a pretty decent chance the button doesn't even have A high. so i like the river call. i dont think the sb has a K. he mightve donked that and he mightve folded the flop with K high. i think a 5 or a flush are most likely, then a bluff.

i think the turn is ok. it is a lot less likely that the button will take his free card, whether he has a heart or not. he will probably bet hands like black JJ, red JJ because he has a heart draw so if he gets checkraised its not so bad, or the Ah because he has the nut flush draw. if it didnt put a third heart up, id bet there always unless he was an autobettor. also if you had black KQ then id bet there. but i think it works a lot and its not that terrible when it fails. it probably wont lose you the pot

I've been playing a lot of 30/60 6 max lately, I'm basically self taught and I just started reading this short handed forum. I've had pretty good success at 10/20 6 max and 15/30 but the competition was much weaker at those levels. In a really aggressive 30/60 game is this a must cap with KQ from this position? What is the minimum you are capping with? Does anybody have a link for a good 6max preflop thread (or any other good threads from over the years)?

thanks,

I hesitate to advise, since I don't play 30/60...but I don't think preflop really matters that much.

Haha yeah true. I was more saying it in a general way; when our plays come off, we always think we did the right thing. Results oriented. But were they? I guess thats the difference between good and great.

on this.
i agree that his flop call of 2 cold OOP looks like a FD or trips, but remember
-he is a horrible fish and could have anything.
-a heart draw almost always threebets the flop in this game.

im not saying u completely abandon handreading, but it is semi hopeless on the cheap streets w/ a guy like this. he could withstand multiple bets w/ any2 on the cheap streets.

I am probably stupid (and I dont play 30) but could someone explain to me why the river call is so great? Because I would probably just go ahead and raise here.

Re: KQ 30 HAND. I PLAY BAD.

sb probly folds to a raise and button is not calling 2 cold unless you chop. an overcall is the most +ev move.

Re: KQ 30 HAND. I PLAY BAD.

Probably since everybody seems to agree here. I thought the 30/60 was even more aggressive meaning SB would not necessarily believe a river raise but call instead getting 13-1 with a 5 or even less. Of course we might chop with the case K or lose to 55 but that doesnt seem hugely likely... I would be more inclined to go for the overcall if our hand was not quite as good.

Re: KQ 30 HAND. I PLAY BAD.

FWIW we also lose to K8. Correct me if i'm wrong but I don't think the quality of our hand is the issue here. It is the quality of what our opponents might have. We probably aren't getting any more bets in here by raising. A flush won't call two but might overcall, a lone A might overcall. AA might overcall. But none of those hands are calling a bet and a raise. Also the initial bettor might not even be likely to call a raise here unless he is splitting the pot with you or beating you.

flawless_victory 11-24-2005 02:47 AM

results.

obviously, i assumed button had an A, and was a near lock to overcall... i also thought there was a chance sb had a complete bluff.

well button folded (22-44, i guess). sb showed 4d5d, and MHWG.
made me sick to suck out that bad and win so little, if i raise the river im getting at least 2 and quite possibly 4 bets.
