Suicide Music

So I'm living in this apartment, and all of the sudden a half decent stereo shows up. It turns out it used to belong to my roomate's brother who comitted suicide. It has a 4 disc changer in it and they still holdf the 4 CDs that were in rotation when the suicide took place. They include the Velvet Undergrounds's Black album, OK Computer, and two heavy classical dics (Beethoven and Mozart, IIRC) This begs the question: if you were going to kill yourself, what albums would make up your suicide soundtrack?

Some form of circus music. Even suicide is best with a heavy dose of irony.

This actually requires a custom compilation, here's my tuppence:

1. Suicide is Painless (theme from MASH)
2. Somebody kill me (from the Wedding Singer)
3. Don't fear the Reaper - BOC
4. Play Dead - Bjork
5. Bring me back to life - Evanescence (for the times its a cry for help)

any more?

Re: Suicide Music

I think it is also dependent on the method of your demise as well. e.g.

"Happiness Is a Warm Gun" by the Beatles = Self-Inflicted Gunshot.

"Hang" by Matchbox 20 = Hanging

"Cut" by the Cure = Slit wrists

No, I think the question is what would you play to accompany your suicide - not what music would actually cause you to die.

Re: Suicide Music

Hmm songs are easy, but albums are harder to choose. Here's my list. I'd play them in this order, and listen just to the end of the last album.

Pink Floyd - The Wall (if that's not depressing, I don't know what is)
Evanescence - Fallen (some pretty sad stuff on that)
Nirvana - In Utero (best Nirvana album, and of course a nod to Kurt Cobain)
Pantera - The Great Southern Trendkill (some great suicide tracks on this one)
And finally...
Pink Floyd - The Dark Side of the Moon. (This is depressing as well, but it's just [censored] great, if I'm going then I want to be going out to the best album ever recorded. edit: bah, you knew what I meant. Brain damage. yeah. The lyrics fit perfectly.)

A custom compilation would include:
Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody (this is an absolute must), I want to Break Free, Who Wants to Live Forever
Metallica - Fade to Black, One, Harvester of Sorrow, Damage Inc.
Soundgarden - Like Suicide
Depeche Mode / The Cure - Into a Darkened Room
AC/DC - Highway to Hell
Motley Cure - Dancing on Glass

Ah, I spent too much time thinking about this. Fun topic though.

This is true. Every time I hear "Rocket Man", I think about the suicide episode of Nip/Tuck where the gf with cancer offs herself while "Rocket Man" is playing.

There was some special on MTV about some guy who killed himself because of bjork.

Re: Suicide Music

Why are you guys listing whole albums, or even lists of albums? You must be planning some slow suicides.

Anyway, I'd go with Cherub Rock by the Smashing Pumpkins, blasting at full volume on my iPod. Intense song, lyrics are even kind of appropriate. "Leeeeeet... let me ouuuut."
And I'd listen to it while jumping off a cliff. Yeah, I've thought about this too much.

Or anything else by Clint Mansell and the Kronos Quartet, for that matter. That stuff is intense as hell. I'm a fan.

Las Dos Torres Requiem Overture is the name of that theme song, according to whomever I downloaded it from. This may or may not be true. A beautifully spooky song either way.
