Dell 9300 Experience Wanted

I'm on the cusp of buying it for $2044.

Anyone have actual experience using this, especially on the road?

Specifically:

1) Can you fit eight or more (unsized) tables on the 17" Ultra Sharp Wide (WUXGA) screen?

2) Speed. My HP 1.4 GHz/480MB processor is too slow running PPx8 + PT + HUD. It works, but there are little delays that add up. The 9300 is a 1.7, not much faster but has twice the memory and may have faster graphics.

3) Problems? Like power, weight, overheating. I've had real problems with my HP overheating and shutting off with no warning.

Also, there are some coupon codes out there for up to $750 off, but I couldn't get them to work. Any discount/rebate info appreciated.

Re: Dell 9300 Experience Wanted

It's not your processor that's lagging, it's your memory. Furthermore, the 1.7 chip in the 9300 is roughly a 2.5ghz+ so you're fine.

Re: Dell 9300 Experience Wanted

i sometimes had some laggish probs with p-tracker and GT+ running on my Inspiron 5100.

Now I have the 9300 and have almost no problems. Sometimes I can certainly tell that it's importing and taking a little longer...but it's not even close to the delays I would sometimes get on my former computer.

If your HP is occasionally shutting down for no reason then I would think there are plenty of other problems with it (viruses..hardware probs inside..something) and that it isn't JUST not having enough memory or anything like that.

Anyway...it works great and I like it.
Doesn't really get too over-heated.
You can also consider buying one of those laptop cooler thingees to put underneath it. Get them at Comp USA or maybe even Office Max. It's just a little pad that has 2 or 3 little fans that you plug into the USB and stick underneath.

Multi-tabling...full size tables you will only be able to fit 4 without overlap. You will have some extra space on the side though for e-mail and PT or whatever.

The WUXGA screen is 1900x1200 (or maybe it's 1960x1200...whatever).
You need 1600x1200 to 4-table without overlap (each table is 800x600).
So you have just a little extra space beyond the necessary 1600x1200 but to me it's a nice luxury.

Of course, you can always plug in an extra monitor and play on 2 monitors at once (your lap-top screen has 4 tables...and your extra monitor has 4).

Also, the Party-Beta version has the ability to re-size the tables to be much smaller. You should be able to see the action on 6 tables overlap free....beyond that if you want to play without overlap on the one screen I think the tables are too small..but you could still do it.

Are they on sale now? I thought people normally got them around a little over 1k but I might be mistaken.

Re: Dell 9300 Experience Wanted

yeah, i just ordered one today for 1150. Used the 750 off an a 100 off Delf coupon. Go to their site and play the Delf game until you win a 100 off coupon. Also do the DPA financing to save another 2%. ended up at 1150 a loaded model.

Re: Dell 9300 Experience Wanted

yeah..there's no reason to pay $2k for it.

Mine cost $1500....but I had mine paid for completely by a different company so I didn't have to really scratch and claw to every little savings (absolute poker wanted to buy my old computer to look at the probs I was having...they bought me a new one...thread on this originally in June).

I had one $750 coupon for it I think so it would have 'normally' been $2250 as I recall.

It looks like the $300 off special is not in addition to the $750 coupon.

Re: Dell 9300 Experience Wanted

One more question, is the 5400rpmHard Drive enough for 8 tables and PAHUD and PT or should I get the 7200 for $230 more?

Thanks.

Yeah, I tried the $750 off coupon (starts with "$3") but it wouldn't allow it. Just to make sure, could you give me the exact code you used?

I planned to use fatwallet's 3% rebate, but wonder if there'll be problems combining with the two coupons.

Re: Dell 9300 Experience Wanted

The $1999 has to be the system. If you've added things like carrying bag, mouse or anything external, that doesn't factor into what gets discounted.

Re: Dell 9300 Experience Wanted

Just came from the site, still refuses the $750 coupon.

Now the price is $100 higher, $2144, but it shoves in a $500 coupon.

Are we all talking about the same model? There are 3 levels for the 9300 -- I'm talking about the top one, the only one with the WUXGA option. The cheap version is only $999.

As for the Delf golf game, couldn't find it anywhere on the site or anywhere else.

Re: Dell 9300 Experience Wanted

The 3 9300s on the site are just the same computer with different options. You could build up the $999 on to be more expensive than the $2000 one.

For the Delf game go to www.dell.com/holiday I think.

so you just play it once a day until you get it right? I'm running out of days before then 750 expires (15th I believe)

Yes, just play until you get it.

I just ordered a 9300.

Got one wirth $1500 so I used the $500 coupon and the $100 Delf coupon so I got a nice 9300 with the awesome screen that I can play poker on for just over $1000 including shipping and tax. I am happy with that.

Re: Dell 9300 Experience Wanted

I can't get the $750 coupon to work either. It says that it cannot be used with a weekly discout or something so I think the $500 thing makes it so it won't work. Does anyone know if you can refuse the $500 so you can use the $750? I tried increasing the cost of the computer so that it would still be over the 2k even with the $500 but it still woulnd't let me use the $750 coupon.

Would any of the upgrades be a good idea? I'd use the laptop for multitabling and a lot of music. Also, I want it to be pretty fast with no delays...

Thanks.

Re: Dell 9300 Experience Wanted

make sure u get one of the 7200rpm harddrives. They are one of the biggest bottlenecks of many systems. This is help with faster imports, quicker load times, etc.

Re: Dell 9300 Experience Wanted

Don't that much!

Wait, there will be another massive coupon available soon. There always is.

I used a coupon for $750 off of any Inspiron over $2000.

Re: Dell 9300 Experience Wanted

I bought a 9300 a few months ago and am not entirely happy with it. I find the WUXGA screen hard on the eyes as everything is so small, and non-native resolution while larger looks ugly.

The trackpad is almost unusable for two reasons: (a) it is off-centre so that you tend to hit the wrong button (an incredibly stupid design decision) and (b) the buttons require so much force to depress that your thumb gets sore after a day or two.

FWIW I got it for $1300. Do some better shopping.

Re: Dell 9300 Experience Wanted

I'm disappointed in the "look" of the screen also. My old Dell was much better. I have messed around with fonts, resolutions and viewing size. Copy and sites are blurry and do not look crisp and clear. Anyone have an idea on this? Or is this just because of the hi resolution screen?

I alway hook up a USB keyboard to type and seldom would use a touchpad so that does not bother me. Do not hook keyboard up direct to laptop, it won't boot if you do. I went thru my USB hub and it boots fine.

Not color blind and use caps, I know I am entering it right. Have no idea why it won't work.

Re: Dell 9300 Experience Wanted

I spoke with Dell support today and I asked about hooking up that new 30 inch Dell monitor with the Inspiron 9300 and they said it was possible if you upgraded the video card to 256MB and purchased a 2 port KVM switch...I think that sounds like a plan.
