Getting funky with Windows

Over the past couple of years, as I have steadily played more and more poker (and thereby spent more and more time at my computer)I have come to a point where I really enjoy having my computer really unique and personalized. I have tons of sweet hi-res 1600 x 1200 wallpapers, a clean desktop, good software, killer WinAmp skins, etc. The result is a really nice looking PC.

However, I have grown very bored with the limited customization I have access to in WinXP. I remember in older windows I could set window/taskbar colors and fonts easily. In XP they are either olive green, blue or silver. What I am looking for is a nice, free program that mods out windows that I can play around with. I want to change various colors, window appearence, etc.

I have found a couple of these programs on the web but wanted to see if there are any programs you guys have exerience with and recommend.

Thanks,

GS

In WinXP you have the following options under the "appearences" tab

1.) color: blue, silver or olive green

2.) Fonts: normal, large or extra large

How fun does that sound?

Besides shanjens, more here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/plus/screensavers.asp

and

http://wulfert.ezthemes.com/pcenhance/xs/main.phtml

has some other info. You can [censored] around w/ windowsblinds etc to do all sorts of silly stuff. The advanced tab in my pic really legs you change almost everything though.

Re: Getting funky with Windows

i know what you're getting at, and what you're looking for. there are programs that do this, but you have to pay. however, there are ways to mess with the code of explorer.exe and stuff to customize windows xp. (for example, i once changed the "start" button on the lower left to say "get crunk!") do a google search...there are pages out there with instructions on how to do that stuff. if you find any good programs post a link here, if you don't mind.

also, try posting this in the computer help forum.

Switch to classic style first. Also, it's Win2k3 since i don't use XP at work. I'm sure XP has more than 3 colors though in classic mode.

not hardly, i specifically said that i had found some and was looking for suggestions from posters who had experience with various programs, not that i didnt know where to get them. there is a big difference between being an ass when it is warranted and misinterpreting things so you have something to be an ass about.

This is the correct answer. Soooo many themes that you can download for this (and you can make your own).

Stardock has many other apps that allow you customize just about anything.

Okay, so you got a background that you like and got rid of all the desktop shortcuts. I'm not seeing what's so exciting. Oh well - I hope you have fun with all your colors.

Re: Getting funky with Windows

The scheme is pearl white (unavailable in WinXP)
the start button is replaced by a smooth looking icon
the windows are completely revamped, including frames, color and icons
the toolbars are resized and use less space

It is a complete skin for windows, I did not just "find a background I like". If you have no interest in the subject, why are you so active in this thread? Youve made SIX (6) useless, negative posts in this thread with absolutely no content.
