Frankly my reaction is that the whole discussion is silly.

Why do you think 2+2 Publishing is paying the hosting fees and maintenance to support a public forum? So that nobody will read it?

No, I don't think so. They have a public forum so lots of people will come visit it, enabling them to sell advertising and presumably make revenue.

Anybody who wants to have a private forum is free to go to Yahoo Groups and set up a privately-moderated email alias. Then the mods can invite whoever they want. It's easy, it's free, and I'm sure there are a lot of them. Knock yourself out.

For my part I will be telling everybody I know because I have tremendous appreciation for the good folks at 2+2 and this is my small bit to assist in their continuing success.
