These covers are absolutely incredible. I love all of them. This is easily the best first post I've EVER seen. Congratulations on designing such beauties!

Awesome. I hope your multiple great entries don't get a diluted vote. I pick the blue one with the Big Fat Chips!

pretty good typesetting... but im pretty sure the images underneath are from Getty Images. In which case, they need to be purchased to avoid potential lawsuits.

[/ QUOTE ]

Thanks,

The images are royalty free images from a stockhouse, (except one, if that design is chosen i could shoot it myself.) I already own the cd that all the rest of the images came on so we don't have to worry about lawsuits.

Opus, this cover is really nice, but just one question: What is that thing over the cards?

You do great work but can you PhotoShop it?

I presented that question to my roomate. He says the rotated "M" is supposed to represent a hand holding the cards. I also wondered what it was when I first saw it.

Yeah, I realized that a few minutes after I posted it.
Here is a corrected one.

Re: Cover Contest: Getting Started in Hold \'em -- Second Try

My requirements:

1- A revolver
2- A hold'em hand at showdown (5 card board, 2 or more hands in competition) - ironic/cruel twist of fate a must.

Meet these requirements and you get my vote (not that my vote actually matters in this contest).

Card Version

Okay, how about this?

I like these ideas but would also add.

1. Make the revolver real not a cartoon.

2. I want to be able to read this in public places, leave it on my desk at work, or in my bookcase at home. Classy, clean and understated would be perfered even if you have to omit the blurbs and the revovler.

I hope those shirts are going to be for sale. I thought of hiring a pro to win this for me. But I can see from the quality of the entries this might back fire. Great job everyone keep em coming.

I was honestly floored at how good several of these are. I couldn't decide. Great work everyone!

Hi Stuey:

The shirts will be for sale. But first we have to get them and are told that they will probably show up by the end of the week. Then it will take us a few days to get something up on site.

Best wishes,
Mason

I like these covers.

If I was judging the contest, you definitely would be in the running.

I like these. I think the cards look much better against the blue background.

jack, very nice. well done.
the blue and red seems better to me than the christmas version.

also, i think the fonts could use a little tweaking. Still a little to Powerpoint for me.

cheers

Re: Card Version

Very Nice, This looks like classic 2+2. You should have the tens hitting quads on the flop though and the 67c hitting a gutshot st8 flush on the river.

JackWilson 02-14-2005 10:05 PM

Re: Cover Contest: Getting Started in Hold \'em -- Second Try

Thanks for the compliments.

As for the fonts, any suggestions? I spent quite a bit of time on them but they're obv very easy to change. It's all a matter of preference, I don't think I can do much better without more specific input.

Re: Cover Contest: How to post a cover?

For those who have posted an image here, how do you do it? I have a jpg saved to Photobucket.com as suggested...but how do I get it onto this thread?

Thanks,
Leavenfish

Re: Cover Contest: Getting Started in Hold \'em -- Second Try

Copy the location from photobucket. In a post click the image link which you will find below the post box just next to the red square. When the thingie pops up put the url into the place where it asks for it.

Nice work.

I especially like the monkey holding cards and throwing chips.

But you can't best Glitch's original effort in the first contest thread.
You've probably already seen it.
But if you haven't, here's the link.

Re: Cover Contest: Getting Started in Hold \'em -- Second Try

the 2nd & 3rd ones just rock hard; but honestly I think it's like, distractingly-sexier than the current 2+2 library.

it's like having Jessica Alba model swimsuits w/ the US Women's Shotput Team.

Re: Cover Contest: Getting Started in Hold \'em -- Second Try

I don't think that understanding stack size is a good blurb for the front of hte book.

Maybe the back instead?

I'm also not 100% sure that the term "nuts and bolts" is what you're looking for.

--

Ever since you guys republished HEPFAP and SSHE without the hand pictures, I've been wanting to rewrite the rest of your books, so here's my shot at what could be on the cover if I ran the world.

Maybe:

Getting Started in Hold'em

Strategy - Tactics - Evaluating Your Play

No-Limit Holdem

Limit Holdem

Tournament Holdem
-Satelites
-Multi-Table Tournaments
-Single-Table Tournaments

Edit: Change Tournament Holdem to Tournament Strategy

Yeha, and I'd just like to add that this is a sweet, sweet cover.

Of course, my desktop is flat grey, so...

So many great entries so far! I was counting on having a bit more time to play around with my ideas, but now that the contest is being locked down tomorrow, it kind of spurred me into motion. I'm at work right now, so this is kind of a first draft, because the pictures I had taken for the purpose of using them on my entries are on my home computer.

Here's a slightly improved version of my cover.

There's at least two I like better than this, but maybe I'll get lucky and majorkong likes light tan backgrounds or AJ[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]
