Later, he offered her $5,000, Gill said.

"I said I wanted $95,000 more," she said. "Nobody would watch and listen for two hours for a candy bar."

Yeah, but they're offering $5k... a lot of people would listen for two hours for that.

[/ QUOTE ]

The point is that a lot of people were conned into listening via false promises and false advertising. If the said "win a 100 grand" ok, I can see that. However, they said "win 100 grand". The distinction of that single letter is very important IMO. She wasn't acting out of stupidity in this case. She deserves compensation IMO.

They wouldn't. Who would give a [censored] about winning a candy bar?

But if you can get people to tune in thinking they can win $100,000 when you're really only going to give them a candy bar, now that's a cost effective promotion? Unless you lose a lawsuit of course.

Only way to stop BS like this is for judges and juries to bring the hammer down and make them pay.

[/ QUOTE ]

If they are smart then they have a disclaimer run every day that says with giveaways the station can 'change the terms of the promotion at any time without notice.' If they don't I guess they're stupid and maybe they should get nailed.

This is just a dumb thing to do for them because it's not like the usual gags where they prank some unsuspecting person as the audience listens... it's making all the listeners feel stupid. I don't know why that would make someone want to listen.

I don't know if they should have to pay, but I'm not liking this station either way.

She believe she won "100 grand." The radio station didn't say she won "A 100 grand."

So they said, "You win one hundred grand," as opposed to "... a hundred granded."

Hmm... that's shady and she probably deserves the money. But, I doubt she will ever win this in court.

Everything SpearsBritney has said in this thread is correct.

(even though it isnt exactly "britney spears" I still feel dirty saying that)

I'd like to hear the whole context here, but it sounds like the radio station was guilty of blatant deception. When the DJ quits, it tells you something is screwy at the radio station.
