if you win the WSOP main event, you are "the man" in poker.

[/ QUOTE ] Yeah Robert Varkonyi is really the man, he has done zilch since winning back in 2002. What has Daniel done in that time? Well he won a bracelet in 2003 and 2004, not to mention multiple final tables. I'd rather have Daniel's poker accomplishments over Varkonyi any day.

of course daniel is a better player than Varkonyi and does have more accomplishments. but if you asked daniel if he could trade his best all around player award for a WSOP main event bracelet he would do it in a heartbeat. RV is not a "superstar" of poker but his picture is on the wall and you know his name. Moneymaker isn't one of the best high limit poker players in the world either but you've heard of him because he won the main event.

His style

I would agree with your analysis but for one thing. This is Daniel's style and it works for him. He has written many articles about "splashing around" in the early stages of tournaments with the idea being he'll bust out early, or arrive at the final table as one of the chip leaders. He has arrived at quite a few final tables this year, and if you notice, he is almost *never* the short stack.

One of the things I have discovered in my extensive study of no limit play is that there is no "right" way to play. The superstars of this game have many different styles; each which works for them.

I do agree with you that he went too far with a few hands that had potential before the flop. (KQ and the Q2s most notably).

I think HE agrees with you

I think most of the pros will play differently next year. I see them trapping much more than bluffing. One of the best lines I got from this forum was......"If a player is not good enough to lay down a hand he should to your bet.....then your bet better not be a bluff trying to get him to lay down such a hand."
