Let me point out that my argument is theoretical, not empirical. I could make an empirical argument -- I'm +127 big blinds, gross of toke, in 116 hours of Foxwoods $2/4 despite the fact that I've literally been learning hold 'em during that time. But that's a foolish argument because it's a tiny sample, and you're right -- no one should care what my results are.

However, if 8 people are seeing each $2/4 flop and 6 are seeing the flop at $4/8, the rake is not the issue at the lower limit. It just isn't. Max rake is $4 per pot, so two extra limpers are enough to have you effectively playing rake-free.

Should you count the jackpot drop as part of the rake? In most places, for every dollar you put into that box, you have an EV of one dollar coming out of that box.

Actually your ROI on that dollar is somewhere around 50 cents if it's a bad beat jackpot, more if it's a smaller high hand one. This is due to admin fees, a high tax rate on the money, and the dealer tip.
