His wife is a medical doctor. I'm sure his bankroll doesn't cover living expenses.

Other than you need to take zillions from book sales, Dvd's and his very strong relationship from UB which gives him equity in a successfull online casino....Oh and his wife just happens to be a practicing doctor in one of the welthiest areas in the world.....now its kinda hard to believe he isnt worth several million dollars.

OK, look. You are making my point for me. Why do you post?

Look at Boris' post. He talks about the guy's house and how much it is likely worth based on actual knowledge. Facts.

Look at Bolivia's post. He talks about actual winnings and real facts about Phil's poker earnings and expenses and performance in both tournies and side games.

And then there's you. For some reason you feel the need to engage in speculation yet again in a situation where you seem to actually know next to nothing.

Book sales? How much do you think he gets per each book sold? Do you have any idea?

UB equity stake? You know he has an equity stake? Earlier you talked about him getting 1% of the UB rake. Do you actually know a single thing about his UB compensation? I doubt it.

I know plenty of investment bankers who have made millions over the last few years and are worth nowhere near several million dollars. I know plenty of doctors here who aren't rich. I also know plenty who are.

I'm not saying Phil isn't worth millions. He easily could be. But he could just as easily not have very much at all. I just don't understand why a guy like you feels the need to constantly argue about things like this when you have no knowledge of the facts.

How about Sousa (sp?). He runs with eskimo and can be found at the Bellagio poker room/book any day of the week. He doesn't strike me as an intellectual.

You think 19 months on the best seller's list didn't make Phil some money? Even if the book only sold a million copies, and even if he got a terrible deal from the publisher of perhaps 7% of the net wholesale (15.95 x .40 x .07) that still leaves him with almost $450,000 so he can probably handle a $54,000 loss for the year.

I'm no expert on book economics, but I'd be very surprised if there are a million copies of Phil's books out there. One of his is ranked #849 on Amazon, and the other #13,538. According to some guy named Morris Rosenthal (who appears to have studied the issue at great length), that translates into sales of about fifteen a day and about two a day, respectively.

http://www.fonerbooks.com/surfing.htm

That suggests that Phil is nowhere nowhere near a million-copy seller, even assuming that Amazon accounts for five per cent of Phil's sales. Keep in mind that the entire two plus two book sales (according to Amazon) are 400,000 copies.

Again, Phil could easily have a million cash stacked under a mattress, ready to gamble: I'm speculating here. I was really responding to the poster who threw out the idea of a million in cash as though it were an easy number to get to. It isn't, even for people with very very high gross incomes.

I don't know about dumb, but if you consider stupid to be close to the same thing, then there is only one candidate, and he occupies all 10 slots -

Stu Ungar.

Brilliant at poker. Genius at gin. Idiot at life. A complete waste of talent.

Wait isnt his wife like an MD in Palo Alto...doesnt he live in Palo Alto...you guys understand this is one of the MOST wealthy areas in the nation correct?? \

Whether its liquid? pr not is pure semantics. His house alone in Palo Alto is probably worth...I suspect like 600K+.

If you guys hate him to such a degree you want to pretend he is broke be my guest. I m just saying all the evidence points to him being very financially secure of late.

[/ QUOTE ]

off topic but 600k buys you a shack (literally) in palo alto. I thought Orange County real estate was expensive until I looked at some of the norcal prices.
