If I may add a few records.
This is a list of cd's you should own and it is by no means complete. Year of release in ()

I know, I know, I'm a child of the MTV generation (...and a little biased at some points).

Any Dylan, Beatles and Stones 1966-1970
The Doors - Strange Days (1967)
The Kinks - Something Else By The Kinks (1967)
The Velvet Underground & Nico (1967)
Neil Young - Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere (1969)
Led Zeppelin - Fourth Album (1971) (The one with Stairway To Heaven, I don't know the title. catalogue number: 7567-82638-2)
Pink Floyd - Dark Side Of The Moon (1973)
Neil Young - On The Beach (1974)
Bruce Springsteen - Born To Run (1975)
Van Halen - Van Halen (1978)
Van Halen - Van Halen II (1979)
AC/DC - Back In Black (1980)
Dire Straits - Brothers In Arms (1985)
Guns N' Roses - Appetite For Destruction (1987)
Nirvana - Nevermind (1991)
R.E.M. - Automatic For The People (1991, or is it 1992? don't remember)
Oasis - Definitely Maybe (1994)
Oasis - What's The Story Morning Glory (1995)

Def Leppard - Hysteria (1987) - I don't know how I feel about adding this one to the list. For sales figures I think. Very commercial. Impossible to skip if you want to include 80's material.

As for cd vs. lp I say go for cd's. Some have been released with bonus tracks. Might be worth it. Of course lp's look cooler on the shelf.

Phew, I put some work in this list. Please tell me you are going to buy some of it.

I don't like Elvis, I think he's pop. He's pop before it became commercialised.

keller- your time won't go wasted. My list of vinyls is going to cost me at least $1000.00 but that's okay =]
