Just seems strange to me. This site doesn't want pictures of people that don't give permission to have their picture on the web or whatever, right? And then one of the moderator goes and throws up a bunch of pictures??

[/ QUOTE ]

Heh, that's what my initial reaction was too.

[/ QUOTE ]

You'll note that I objected to having my picture posted, and Dynasty thankfully honored that request by withholding my photos. No one else objected. So the rules of the site are being honored.

[/ QUOTE ]

Clark, was this before or after your picture was posted? Also, you're a guy, different than ed's wife. You'll not have the fanclub a pretty woman would have. Sorry.

Did anyone else have an opportunity to object before the pictures were posted? For the record, permission was not asked prior to posting. It was simply a fait accompli. Frankly I was gobsmacked.....

No.

Since Ed Miller had already linked to wedding pictures and posted on more than one occassion that he was going to post more pictures, I didn't consider it an issue. I was very surprised by Elaine's request.

They were unflattering photos of me, for one.
It was a private event, not a 2+2 event.
I didn't mind when only 200 posters had viewed the thread. It started to bother me when the numbers grew to the thousands....

on another note... now that everyone knows my last name, we can trot out the muse about how Ed, himself, is now plus E.V.

Well, Bryan, first of all Edward selected the pictures he posted--therefore he and Mrs. NPA were comfortable with what was shown. Second of all, you posted pictures of many people who had no clue about the fact that they were about to be visible to the whole world--in some cases, those people do not even know of the existence of 2plus2. Third, if Edward and Elaine planned or are planning to post pictures of the reception, the pictures posted would have been of their choosing, not of yours, and they would have gotten permission from other people who were in the pictures (like, Mom and Dad, is it OK if we post your pix?).

Basically, Bryan, you were well over the line. I am personally not going to make a fuss since I don't think there is a soul in the world who gives a damn what I look like, but if any pinbrain OOTer makes a crude remark about me, I will take steps. (And there was at least one response early in this thread that I thought was so far over the line that it was in another galaxy.) Use some common sense, people, and have some respect.

This is a bit of an over-reaction. These were normal party pictures (quite tame actually) and hardly are unflatering to anyone. Does anyone think we will remember what you guys look like? (unless we are planning to meet you in Vegas sometime in the future)

As for thread views, that doesn't represent the number of people who've seen the thread. I've clicked this thread at least 15 times (whenever there is a new reply), its just us same people viewing multiple times. Whats in the first post is long forgotten for most.

Who are you, L.O.L.? Your combination of femaleness, the fact that you're not Elaine and your presumption of stern authority suggests that you're Mrs. Malmuth. Hi, Mrs. M, assuming it's you. If it is, I must say that it wounds me in the heart to know that you're so contemptuous of your husband's customers / devotees, who are a largely young and often rashly spoken bunch, but who genuinely wish good tidings to all present. As for the "comment so far out of line that it was in the next galaxy," I can only guess, but I suggest that perhaps you should be more gracious to those impressed with the wonderfully graceful way in which you have aged. You go to any function and pictures are taken and passed around. Big deal. OOT is not as huge as some seem to think. Anyone who has played at a B&M has exposed themselves more there.

It's not the photos, it's the fact that they were posted on a public website without permission. No one, as far as anyone can tell, "wigged out" when the pictures were taken. Further, if you can't understand the fuss, your self-assessment is wrong.

Re: Question for Dynasty, or anyone else that can answer?

[ QUOTE ]

Guess what? It's a free country and this is a public venue, subject to the terms of service. Forty thousand people have been watching you post, and you have no way of knowing who they are--and in some cases it might surprise you to learn who is tuning in. This may feel like your own private little lockerroom, but it ain't. If anyone here acts like a jerk, he (or she) is acting like a jerk in front of a great many very assorted people.

Besides which, you and a whole bunch of other people have been looking at several someones' moms without their permission, and they weren't necessarily that comfortable with it either.

I can tell you absolutely for certain that a number of moms, dads, wives, and girlfriends read these fora--they just don't always make their presence known. Furthermore, anyone reading 2+2 can post a link to a thread here any place else on the internet--and literally the whole world can have access to what you say and in some cases (including yours), what you look like. In fact, that is one stated reason for having moderators--people who are interested in having a business relationship with 2+2 or journalists who are doing research on the poker boom or law enforcement looking for infractions (e.g., IRS and police in areas where poker rooms are not strictly legal) can all read this website. The moderators are supposed to keep the site free of the more ill-considered and inappropriate posts.

Have fun, but do remember that you are showing it to the whole world. My mother, who specialized in foolish advice, did tell me never to put in writing what I wouldn't want to see on the front page of the NYTimes. In that instance, she was not being foolish. Say what you want within the very liberal boundaries of the 2+2 policies, but remember that anyone and everyone is watching you. If you don't remember that, basically you lose at the internet.

I certainly have never said a word about all the long, repetitive, and ultimately tedious discussions of OOTers' toilet habits or about OOTers' exceedingly naive approaches to human sexuality, but in this case, my own personal picture was posted several times in a very public venue without my permission--and I have every right to say something about it. In fact, although I am not sure of the laws, I could probably do something about it--but I am not that distressed.

Re: Question for Dynasty, or anyone else that can answer?

The problem with the idea that posting something on the internet exposes it to the world is that 2+2 is just a tiny piece of the internet. So much stuff is posted on other forums, myspace, livejournal, webhosting services, etc. that what we really have information overload.

If there are 50 billion photos of us 300 million Americans, no one is going to notice these few. Trust the law of large numbers.

F'heaven's sake. I sent Dynasty a PM and read his profile. Big whoop!

This is getting out of hand. There are such concepts as expectation of privacy and common courtesy, and you guys ought to think before you do, at least occasionally.

I first saw these Saturday evening after dinner, and I was, as I said before, gobsmacked that they were up there without permission. But I didn't say anything until today when I saw that Mrs. NPA had asked to have her pictures removed, and Bryan/Dynasty said that basically he was surprised that she would object. It clearly never occurred to him that some people like their privacy or, at the very least, would like to control what images of themselves are available where.

As for the needle in the hay stack--yes, there is some truth to that. But this isn't a matter of being afraid that the pix will come to the attention of some creepy pervert so much as the desire to control what aspects of one's private life become public. That is a right we have here in this country. It is up to Mrs. NPA to decide whether she wants her pictures posted and if so, which ones. It's not up to anyone else.
