Isn't it punishment enough dealing with our teams failure every year. I don't need others to put us down. Can't you see we do a good job of that on our own.
I would have more to say but I need a shower, right after I clean my 38.

i'm unfamiliar with cincinatti, perhaps you're referring to cincinnati? idiot.

cincy > buffalo and its not even close.

It pays to not have grammar mistakes in your response criticizing spelling. That, and Cincinnati sucks...I forgot them. When was the last time they did anything even worth an honorable mention?

I'm curious, did they install a courtroom in the new stadium, too? I thought it kicked ass that Veteran's had one.

I believe so. At least they have the initial hearings right on site. Whether or not its an actual courtroom I don't know.
Part of the problem with our reputation is that some people refer to the offenders as passionate fans. I call them drunken idiots.

I'm suprised no one mentioned Indpls. We've been begging the colts to stay for 5 years and now we're ponying up the dough to build those guys a new stadium. Also, having gone to grad. school in Wisconsin, I was suprised that no one mentioned Green Bay.

I don't think they did at the baseball stadium. If they did, they don't need it. The fans who show up now are pretty tame, with the exception of a few dumbass drunk 20-somethings who have nothing better to do than [censored] with opposing teams' fans.

Man, there sure are a lot of crappy cities I would never live in that have major sports franchises. Every third post I think "Oh, right, forgot about that one, that place blows ass."

1. Buffalo. I did not see a specific mention of winter in Buffalo, but if it needed a tiebreaker, winter is it.

2. Sacramento. True, Oakland is a den of iniquity, but it is close to San Francisco, which has a couple things going for it.

3. Kansas City. I cannot stand Kansas City.

Re: The worst city in America with a major sports franchise...

I will grant you that. There is absolutely nothing good about winter in Buffalo. Fall is nice, our 5 minute Spring is nice...but Winter flat out sucks. That's about the ONLY thing I miss about the entire state of Florida.

Pros of Buffalo:
1.) Good food (Pizza, Chicken Wings, Italian, Greek, German, anything you want).
2.) Niagara Falls.
3.) Casinos.
4.) Sports fans.
5.) When you're growing up you can cross the river and go to Canada at 19 to get drunk and hit the strip clubs.
6.) Typically mild summers.
7.) Waterfront (although underdeveloped).
8.) The sheer volume of alcohol consumed.

Cons of Buffalo:
1.) Winter
2.) Economy sucks
3.) There's about 17 hot women in the entire town.
4.) Downtown is ridiculously boring aside from HSBC Arena during hockey season.

Re: The worst city in America with a major sports franchise...

things to do in buffalo:
1. be cold
2. drive by closed down factories
3. work in a factory
4. nothing.

LetYouDown 08-05-2005 11:37 AM

Re: The worst city in America with a major sports franchise...

Yeah, it's cold during winter. Yesterday the heat index was over 100. The economy in the heart of the downtown area of Buffalo is mediocre, the outskirts do have a ton of factories that are no longer used. The majority of things to do in Buffalo are toward the north/suburbs. Downtown completely sucks. Aside from hockey games, I never go there. For the record, I've never met a single person that works in a factory in Buffalo in 25 years.

Yeah, I've lived here all my life and I've always loved the area. But now I'm dying to get out. I always held out some hope that Portland would make some strides toward becoming a bigger, cleaner, and better city. But it's just not happening.

- Traffic/congestion is terrible for its size.

- City gov't is totally inept and/or corrupt.

- The Willamette is superfund (i.e. so filthy and polluted it gets a fancy name).

- We have one major sports team, which is a mess. I'm a firm believer that sports teams often give a city its identity, or part of anyway.

- The people here drive me nuts. I don't really know how to put into words other than to tell you to envision a bunch of country folk moving into the city and pretending to be rich and sophisticated. That's your average Portlander.

- imo, nightlife and dining are substandard for a city this size.

- Our unemployment rate was sky-high a year ago. Not sure how it is now but im sure its still rather high.

- High property/income taxes (compared to WA at least)

People are fleeing across the river in droves...with good reason. I live in Vancouver now, but I'm buying a house later this year in Portland. I have this nagging feeling I'm making a mistake.

I think it just comes down to a decade or more of really bad leadership in this city that has allowed things to get out of hand. Downtown is still a pretty neat area, but all the surrounding areas are just trash, imo. Congested, polluted, infested with morons...meh.

Winter in Buffalo is better than most northern cities. At least they get snow. There is nothing worse than just flat-out cold, but minimal snow, like you would get in Iowa or something.

My point was that the only way I could see Houston having traffic was if they had a two lane freeway. I think I understand the concept of more lanes = less traffic.

wow this may go down as one of the more ridiculous statements i have ever heard on this site. this isn't the sports forum so i will keep it short and sweet, the yankees ARE HISTORY you nit and they were history before huge salaries. i am not from new york and am not even a fan, i don't even live anywhere close to nyc but i respect history enough to know that cincy has never had any ruth's or gherig's or dimaggio's or mantle's.

thats just baseball, the knicks have a history as well and so does their (oh this hurts to say this being a die hard cowboys fan) football team. the giants have more championships than the bengals and of course more history there. but wait there is more...we havent even mentioned the mets...see nyc goes on and on.

Re: The worst city in America with a major sports franchise...

Not from Boston...lived there briefly, but born/raised several hundred miles away. I am, in fact, a "hatah" however. I have never understood how anyone can be a fan of that team. I do enjoy how every Yankee fan was born with a Yankee hat on and their "dad loved them" and they've loved them since they were old enough to hold a bat. Just wait until they haven't won anything in 10 years and then you'll see all the "die hard" Yankee fans...well, die.

How is it that hatred for a sports team can turn a seemingly rational human being into something that is capable of saying this.

I mean, even if you remove the Yankees, its still:

Mets, Giants, Rangers and Knicks vs Reds and Bengals
