You're right. I never push. I just limp into the money in 40% of my SNGs. That hand represents every play I make. Maybe one day I can understand poker, but I have little hope.

Trying to help. I'm sorry if I offended you. You don't know how to play poker well and should stop until you understand how really really bad this play was.

I'm favored against two face cards. Let them come to me.

So you're slowplaying the 55? Sounds like a great plan...

You're a muppet. He'd have called even if you pushed, so the result would have been the same here anyway.

The comments on this thread remind me why I no longer regularly read this forum. Several people insisted that the OP played so horribly he can't possibly be a winning player. In fact, his play on this hand was reasonable, just unfashionable on this forum, where people seem blind to anything but a simple pushbot strategy that can be implemented for a 10% ROI on 20 tables. There are many winning strategies, some of which have a higher ROI and some of which look very different from what is currently popular here. Many dangerous opponents follow different strategies, and it is worth understanding them.

There's more than one way to f[/i]uck a lightbulb.

Seat 2: Villain (1790)
Seat 3: Bigstack (3470)
Seat 5: derosnec (2740)
Villain posts small blind (150)
Bigstack posts big blind (300)
** Dealing down cards **
Dealt to derosnec [ 5h, 5s ]
derosnec raises (700) to 700

[/ QUOTE ]
Raising to 700 instead of pushing is not inherently stupid with these stack sizes. It lets you fold if the SB pushes and the big stack calls or reraises. If you get called, you have the advantage of position, and you can get away from an unfavorable flop without losing your stack. If you don't believe me that making such a raise can be reasonable (whether or not I agree with it here; I think it's better to do this with other hands than low pairs), look up past posts by Lorinda and David Sklansky on similar situations.

Dude... why didn't you see the jack coming on the flop then? Huh? Smrt guy?

I also agree there's no way you're beating whatever game you're playing.

[/ QUOTE ]

Oh boy. I'm beating them, don't worry.

Congratulations. You play donks that are worse at poker than you are!

But honestly, congrats if you're winning, but it IS a huge leak in your game. If you want to "trap", limp preflop, although I have a hard time figuring out how that would work. Push preflop.

If you're so confident that you're good enough to ignore CORRECT and PROPER advice that's good for your poker game (we're just trying to help you improve), come join me, tiger, and the others at the $55s and the $109s.

Edit: pzhon has a good point. However, I find that its way too hard to make these types of reads post flop. For example, if the flop comes J-8-2, 2 diamonds, and villain checks to you, what do you do?

This requires making tough reads and knowing your opponent. And frankly, I feel that the online nature of the game, as well as having played with the villain for all of 40 minutes, makes it harder to do. Moreover, it IS true that a lot of us multi table, so it just happens to be easier for us to push this way. But, pzhon does have very valid points.
