Johnny Cash\'s \"Hurt\"

Been thinking about this a lot recently -

I think it's the greatest music video ever made - and I honestly think Johnny Cash looked Elvis straight in the eye and said "Boy, you may be the King right now, but I bet the crown would look good on my head too" - and I think he took it -

I remember actually WATCHING the MTV Video Awards that year to see him make a speech, but he only won a couple awards and that pnumenonia kept him in the Hospital during the award's show...

I wonder what he would have told this generation - Even the hardcore rappers admit he WAS the Original Gangster - (shot a man in reno just to watch him die) -

I'm gonna go get some money off the credit card to go pay some bills before the 15th, and then I'm gonna go get his first Rick Rubin Album (I had it for awhile and lost it before it got burned) and maybe I'll get some other stuff too.

I know he was a grizzled old bastard who was hanging on those last years, but he was taken from us too soon - his replacement wasn't trained - LOL - This Country needs a Johnny Cash.

There was some kind of poll of music industry insiders on this. Hurt won, Thriller got second.

Hurt was great but I think if the poll is given again in 5 years that Thriller will be back on top.

Well said. I'm not much of a country music fan but I love Johnny Cash.

However it's not fair to label Cash as a country music singer. His music encompassed so many genres. I also remembering hearing that he didn't like being called a country music singer.

like I said in my post, I think he was the King of Rock and Roll - I think he suckerpunched Elvis after he started those movies and took the crown and ran with it for 50 years...

Only reason he lived as long as he did was June Carter - he'd tell ya that...LOL - but it was a nice sweet run.

Ok - enough talking about music - must go BUY the music.

FYI, I know there are a lot of closet Neil Diamond fans on OOT, so it might interest them to know that Rick Rubin produced Neil's just released album "12 Songs". Pretty much everything Rubin touches turns to gold, so this might be worth checking out.
