Music does not "define" a generation. Stop using gay 60's speak

I believe you misread the title of the post.

Yes.

I think Weezer is a little off.

I'd say Dave Matthews Band is a little closer. Because seriously, did you ever date a girl in high school who wasn't in love with him?

And of course there's also Eminem and Jay-Z.

I agree, Im 23, I never like either bands weezer/green day, and only listened to them when I was in 8th grade. I would say that the bands you mentioned are a little more "defining" in my book. Jay-z, R kelly, Snoop, Dr. Dre, Mettalica, Dave Mathews, uh...cant think of any more right now..

i can objectively say that green day is not the defining band of any generation. they just aren't. period. they've never come anywhere close to reaching that kind of ubiquity/status/etc.

You could maybe make an argument for Green Day, which is VERY, VERY unfortunate, but I don't think you could call Weezer a defining band of your generation.

[/ QUOTE ]

i disagree. im also 22, and i would say that the songs from weezers blue album are probably known by MOST people from my generation. i havent heard it in 2 years, yet im sure i know the words to every song still. i would agree, green day and weezer, and yes, it sucks.

[/ QUOTE ]

of that general age group, i think a better case could be made for a band like pearl jam (not that i agree).

The defining musical acts of your generation aren't rock bands. Maybe that is what sucks.

I hate to tell you this, but the defining bands of our generation(I'm 21) aren't even bands. They're computer generated crap like Britney Spears, Christina Aguilrea, Backstreet Boys and nSync. 90% of the crap on the radio today is modeled after those 4 groups/individuals and our generation's music will be remembered for its total lack of originality and content.

Maybe you should check out the tuner button/knob on your radio?
