Of course he was referring to blacks. He's a racist and a bigot.

Anyone who got the inference is also a racist and a bigot. You probably don't realize that you are as such or won't admit it. At least you reckognize that it is wrong to be a racist and bigot so you delude yourselves into thinking you're not.

I am not a racist. I might be somewhat of a bigot though.

There is no logic involved here. I'm just expressing what I precieve about human nature. I believe we are wired to be prejudice which ends up being expressed as racism and/or bigotry. There is no evil in it as long as we understand and deal with it. You people are simply in denial of your own human nature.

That's pretty much what I mean when I said I could see how I may be bigoted. The truth is I don't look at white and black people the same. For example if I was lost I would feel much better being lost in a white neighbrhood than a black one.

Actually, there is logic involved.

Simply because you can draw the correct conclusion from an implication in a post (given your knowledge of society, history, and language) does not make you a racist or bigot (one who would believe such arbitrary implications.)

I could go through the logic, but anyone who would understand already knows.

Well, that part of your argument is correct

Of course that's the population he meant. But at the risk of getting flamed for being too p.c., may I say that referring to African Americans as "blacks" could be perceived as prejudiced.

"Anyone who got the inference is also a racist and a bigot."

This I don't understand. How does understanding what he meant make one a bigot or racist?

If this is so obvious to you that he's referring to blacks why isn't it obvious to me?

[/ QUOTE ]

Because you forget that racists typically assume that blacks "tend to do things slowly and w/o regard to accuracty or completeness".

This is a typically racist characterization of blacks. One that goes back, moreover, to the times of slavery.

In other words, if a guy says "they are only good for sucking your dick and cook your dinner and clean the house", it's highly probable that he is referring to women. (Also, that he is a misogynist.)

You made the association when scalf said, "..LaKeisha at grocery checkout...

members of her culture tend to do things slowly and w/o regard to accuracty or completeness." he was referring to black people. Either you were taught this or formulated this association based upon your own experience with black people. Its in your mind now and you cannot escape it. You dismiss the idea but its impossible to dismiss it with 100% certainty. Its going to affect on some level how you interact with black people.

Andy, have you ever changed the wording or felt uncomfortable saying something around an individual just because he/she was black? Do you think you would have felt that discomfort if you had no notions of racial stereotypes?
