What about alleged? Both seem to be acceptable, and I find myself using both...depending on the context.

As a verb obviously you don't pronounce the second e, that would sound ridiculous.

As an adjective I have no idea.

Touche. Pretty straightforward pronunciation as a verb. Friend pointed out the other night when I was reading a newspaper headline (I read it twice to different people) that I said it differently each time. Neither sound pretentious.
