What kind of players do you think earn more money? Those who play for the competition, or those who play to make $$?

The latter. I think it is important to never consider yourself, for example, a "75-150 player." If I go to Taj all primed to play 75-150, sit and hate the lineup, I just go play a lower limit. Why put yourself in a high variance environment where you're not a clear favorite? Some people let their egos convince them that they can beat anybody...and maybe they can beat a tough table. But if a 30-60 table next door is MUCH better, playing a tough 75 game just b/c you're "above" playing lower is plain dumb. It ruins many players. I play to make money, not b/c I want to be on the cover of Cardplayer magazine or have all the floor people know me by name. I will not sit long in games that are not profitable (or only slightly profitable) if a more profitable situation exists at a lower level. If I'm getting outplayed, I'm the first to admit it and will leave...STUCK OR NOT. I just think most people don't think about these things the same way I do...I'd rather play against total morons than say "I sat the 100-200 w/ the toughest players in AC and eked out a win." But that's me.

Also, many people (myself included at times) play way over their monetary comfort zone (or what should be their comfort zone). People with 10k in the bank should not be playing 30-60, 75-150 or anything like that. And if they do anyway (look I'm not going to be a hypocrite here), they should NOT play through 50 bets. Take a shot with 20 bets if the game looks good...but do make sure it LOOKS good, not just that a 5000 win would BE good for you. Many people lie to themselves.

This is an excellent post Jeffage.
I personally make the following mistakes:

[/ QUOTE ] I will always just 'play a few more hands to get even.' I almost never cashout down a little bit at a table I either win or go broke which is incredibly stoopid. There is nothing wrong with droping 5-10 BB and realizing you are not in a good spot.
