Re: August Goals Post

I just took 3 weeks off I was very burnt out but feeling good now been playing last week or so of July. I think it's very important to be ambitious but also be realistic when setting goals that are in a public forum. If your expectations are out of line it can be quite debilatating if you take things too seriously which I tend to do sometimes. Right now my goal is to position myself to move above $5-10 LHE game Full or Short within the next few months. I've also returned to play a decent amount of NLHE and PLHE. I seem to crush the NLHE 6MAX games but do only fair in the Full games-I guess I just give too much action.

1.Hand Total Goal: minimum 45K hands

2.Income Goal Including Rakeback:$10K

3. Continue to play $0.50/$1.00 and $1/2 NLHE and PLHE 6MAX- I just have finished datamining a new huge $1/$2 6MAX NLHE database. Also try to get my Full NLHE stats at $1-2 up to snuff ie 15 bucks an hour.

4. Play more PLO which I really enjoy. I've yet to get above breakeven at $1-2 but I handily beat the smaller games...just havent put it more than 50 hours at the $200's. I used to play a ton of PLO.

5.Grind out whatever it takes to make money in my default games:$3-6,$5-10 LHE Full and 6MAX. Take occasional shots at "good" $10-20 Full or 6MAX games.

6.Swim at least 5 days a week for minimum weekly total of 12.5K-15K yards. I cant wait to get in the water everyday and it clears my head, allows me to play better by keeping focus longer and tilting less easily. It also keeps my weight at ~175 which means I can eat whatever the fukk I want. This is probably my highest priority on the list above any one poker goal..I'm an old fukker 41 so if I dont do heavy aerobic exercise I easily become a fat pig...swimming is the nuts.

7.I just spent hundreds of dollars and completed my poker library I have pretty much every entertaining or notable poker book available. I spent alot of money for vintage copies of PokerFaces and The Education of a PokerPlayer. I have about 40 books to read over the next few months. Reading "TheProfessor,The Banker and The Suicide King:Inside the richest poker game of all time"-what a great read! so try and read 2-3 books a week.

I read what everyone's saying about "the state of small stakes," and I *totally* understand what they're saying. I agree, there's more noise than there used to be.

However, I think the signal is still pretty strong too. We all practice good game selection every day (or we should) -- these days I think we've just got to choose the posts we read wisely, and ignore the noise as much as possible. Folks like chief, entity, harv, and lots of others still contribute real useful stuff every day.

(And the moderators will help, too...)

Eh, maybe I'm just feeling optimistic tonight.

My summer job ended on Friday and I took the last few days off of online play because on Monday I officially am a professional poker player.

1.) Play 40K hands

2.) Continue to improve my turn and river play, especially when to check behind on the turn in HU situations.

3.) Start running again and become somewhat physically fit.

4.) Take another stab at the Canterbury 30/60 game when/if it looks good.

5.) Play my guitar again and write a song.

5. Make at least 40 strategic posts in the SS Forum.

6. Make at least 2 spreadsheets analyzing certain strategies.

7. Play 1 table of a higher limit than 2/4 at least 1 hour/week.

8. Finish my business website and decide how to approach getting just 1 more client for a project in September.

Thanks. But I'll probably still post a lot. I keep saying I won't but my discipline really sucks. Everyone needs goals though.
