While I was in Vegas last year watching the WSOP (I was only 19 at the time so I couldn't play it), I was talking to Phil Ivey while he was shooting craps. I asked him if he recommended any books. He said "I don't recommend anything. Just play. Play all the time. There's no substitute for experience." I took htis comment to heart and have been abiding by it ever since. Not to say that there is anything wrong with reading books. I guess its just personal preference.

vietnamese dont need to read poker books. they are natural born gamblers. they are taught all the tricks in the womb.

I'm not sure why there are so many racist comments springing up in this forum.

But, I sure am getting good practice at suspending posters.

I think the proper word is prejudice. And come on, some of the lewd comments on here lately have been a total 1.4!

I think they said on the WPT coverage that Tuan Lee's tutor is Barry Greenstein. I guess with such a teacher you don't need a book. It is like learning chess from a grandmaster.

The post to which you are responding seemed totally plausible to me. On what basis are you suggesting otherwise?

The same way Doyle Brunson, Chip Reese, etc. managed to win millions without using Pokertracker, etc. Books, software, etc. might help accelerate the learning curve but they are no substitute for experience. Every time you screw up a hand your brain files it away as "Don't do THAT again." Learning from mistakes is a better teacher than any book.

Geez. Its true. I really did shoot craps with Phil in Vegas. Why is it so hard to believe? Here's proof. I guess the pic doesn't prove that I was shooting craps with him but it does prove that I had an opportunity to talk poker with him. Nice picture - Did you snap it right after you ran over Phil Ivey's dog?

Seriously though, thanks for sharing his advice. It's interesting, because while playing a lot of poker is necessary, it seems that if you don't supplement that play with additional study, you just end up getting really good at making the same mistakes very consistently.
