Of course not a "random" lawyer. And by "opinion" I didn't mean a casual off-the-top-of-one's-head opinion; I meant a formal legal opinion.

Anyone working for CRA can't give objective advice.

You are right - I am conservative. While it goes against a lot of who I am, my job requires that I keep my employer from assuming too much risk. That's what I'm paid to do.

Don't forget, if an accountant gives bad advice and the client ends up with a tax liability as a result, it is customary for the accountant to pick up the bill for it.
That's something I'd rather not do.
