Also, none of you should be worrying about managing to play the full 8 hours. The Borgata collects cards at like 5 am for the new day. As long as they don't collect the cards at a time when you're clocked in but not in the room, they can't tell whether or not you've played poker for all the hours your card has been clocked in for.

So, right after you check in to the hotel, sit down in a game and clock in. Stay clocked in whether or not you're still playing until you feel like going to bed, then go down and clock out. If you're staying for multiple days, stay up until they collect the cards for the new day, then sleep really late and you'll have your room rate taken care of by the time you wake up.

The funny thing is that I play like 18 legit hours every day I'm there anyway, so I don't usually do it. It's why you see a lot of people playing until they collect cards and then getting up the next time there's a time collection, though...

Also, I forgot to mention that the best possible room rate is when a cool guy like AviD lets you crash on his extra bed when you're there without a room...:)

nah not yet, seems the general consensus here is that i'm getting the reservation for 100 and then after i play the 8 hours, they knock 60 off my bill? i'm heading down there sometime this weekend and am gonna talk it over with the floor just to be sure. thanks for the help though.

avid,

if you reserve a poker rate, do they quote you a price on the phone at $40?

[/ QUOTE ]

What I do is call reservations and book a room for N days at the poker rate. They quote me the poker rate for those days, which for me is pretty much exclusively weekends and holidays...so I have no clue about midweek rates. I've only paid $100 and $125 to stay per night, regardless of hours played.

I think if you call tell them to book your room (midweek) for the poker rate, they will charge you whatever the full poker rate is (regardless of hours played) and adjust it based on the hours you played. I don't think there is a need to have the poker desk call the front desk when you book a room in advance. The front desk will just check your hours on their computer and adjust your room price accordingly.

Getting the poker desk involved is only for when you are trying to get a room that same day you went down to play...not for when you reserve ahead of time.

No they quote you the rate of $100 because that's what you'll be paying whether you actually play any poker or not.

I'm curious if this is true. I believe you have to play at some point to actually get the poker rate, otherwise they will charge you the full amount.

Someone please verify, because if I go down to stay at the Borgata but want to play at the Taj...I figure I'll have to sit the Borgata for at least one dealer just to get my poker rated room on the weekends. Truth?

if you reserve your poker rate room early enough (which apparently is greater than a week in advance) for a weekend, you should get the rate of $125 per night. and this rate does not go down on weekends, its 125 no matter how long you play. if you get the poker rate room for a weekend, im not sure if you have to even play poker. (probably you do, you should call)

Sorry but this doesn't seem possible. I find it hard to believe that if you are clocked in and leave, then someone fills that seat the computer system doesn't recognize that you are not playing, and subsequently clock you out. Especially since there are a finite amount of seats, (say 500) if 501+ people are clocked in that is pretty good proof that not all of those clocked are playing. Casino tracking systems must be much more sophisticated than you purport them to be considering your proposition could cost the Borgata hundreds of thousands of dollars over the course of a year.

I'm cynical and skeptical b/c the floor should have some regulation over this

Why would the floor care if they are giving out too many comp dollars?

AFAIK, the only thing they note when clocking you in is the limit you're playing (so it knows what to give you per hour). I doubt they note the table number and seat number. They have too much to do to worry about someone abusing them for an extra 10 in comp dollars...obv. if you were very abusive, they might catch it (like you never played at all). I think they expect a little abuse on this, but who knows.
