I see your argument Los, but we're talking about problems with a girlfriend, not a wife. You shoulden't have to make major compromises for a girlfriend that you (likely) don't live with.

These were my thoughts. And besides, the way dating generally works, you won't be seeing her in the next couple of months anyway. I have a steady relationship currently and haven't dated around in awhile, but I remember constantly lying to girls about minor details (as I saw them). "Oh yeah, you're the only girl I'm seeing."

It sounds like she could possibly be a ball breaker. She'll either not like you because of poker gambling (or some other lame reason) or you'll get tired of her yourself. Just make sure to have fun, get out, keep your options open, and don't forget to hedge your bets...you might eventually win a jackpot and meet someone cool as opposed to just a lay. It sounds like it is time to decide whether you want to play poker (and be a man) or bend over and do what she wants. As long as you are a winning player, she is crazy to have a problem with it.

Where else is she going to find a guy that sets his own hours 100% of the time, can fly to any casino in the world and write part of the expenses off on his taxes, and has mad cash in his pocket?

Be prepared to show
1. That you are a winning player.
AND
2. That you are winning enough to make it worth your time. And more importantly, you are winning enough to prefer the money you expect to make then a couple extra hours with your chick.

Hopefully you have some stats on how you've done.
bankroll
Winrate / 100
hands / hr
etc etc.

Once you can show these 2 things you should be able to point out some hobby / worthless activity she does and say "how come you can watch Gillmore Girls and the OC and I shouldn't play poker?"

Also think about this.

Lets say you are a winning 1/2 player,
You must decide to spend the evening with your girlfriend or play 1/2. If you pick poker over your girlfriend you have a serious problem. You either have a severe gambling addiction or your girlfriend (and sex with her) is so terrible that you'd rather have 16 dollars.

You're kidding, right? If she doesn't understand "honey, I enjoy playing poker and I make money" you really think she is going to understand a 1.8BB/hour winrate * 5 tables at a time?

This is exactly right. If she doesn't give in, there's two possible explanations:

1. She's way too uptight to make a good girlfriend.
2. You screwed up the relationship already by being too much of a pushover at the outset. Next time allow the girl to chase you a bit.

I can't believe that you would ask a bunch of guys who spend 25-50 hours a week watching blips on a computer screen for advise about girls. What may be worse is taking advise when you have no idea of the background of the giver. There is a lot of bluster and ego in the responces but I'd bet a lot of the posters would fold like a cheap camera.

i've told her from day 1 that i play alot. i'm winning but still amassing a bankroll (playing seriously only about 2 months) so dont pull out much (as opposed to when i'm with her). i mostly 3-table NLHE .10/.25 and $10SNGs so the money is blah at the moment ($7/hr) and the vast majority is plowedback into BR.

the key is that i really dont care what she wants. as has been noted by posters, she's clearly not a future wife prospect and probably not a future GF prospect. the issue is that this has been a common reaction from girls. particularly since the weekends are the juciest games.

also, she has a history of 3somes and i want her around long enough to feel comfortable with me. not quite sure how to judge that against poker $s, but its way +EV.

i do know that dating is a form of competition similar to poker (pun intended). strategy and tactics can be planned and executed and guile is at a premium.

how do i keep her (and others) around while still getting in the requiste poker hrs? i work about 3-4 hours a day (nonpoker). is it possible that eurosites have the weak after work crowd playing during the US daytime? or are they playing stars and party during our days? a quick look at the tables most days seems to show much more tightness at the tables.
