Dear Sir, I am a big Nolan fan myself. I have enjoyed many of your posts. I will, however, never read another, as I am exteremely dismayed by the above-referenced quote. Man, I, well, I'm speechless. [/ QUOTE ] Hmm. Not a Who fan? Given the amount of inflammatory comments posted on this site, I certainly hope I wasn't the first person to post something meriting this response from you! I guess the lyrics could be offensive...I apologize if that's the case. Didn't mean anything by it. On the other hand, if you're merely offended by my musical tastes, well, I never claimed to have any in the first place! Other favorites of Nolanfan: - Break on Through, The Doors - Sympathy for the Devil, The Rolling Stones - Born to Run, Bruce Springsteen I do like The Who as well. |
Re: The best rock song of all time is.....
It's gotta be one of the following:
Layla (Derek and The Dominos) Time Has Come Today (The Chambers Brothers) When The Levee Breaks (Led Zeppelin) War Pigs (Black Sabbath) Mouth For War (Pantera) Gimme Shelter (The Rolling Stones) Helter Skelter (The Beatles) Looking At You (The MC5) Raw Power (Iggy and The Stooges) There are more, but I gotta go now. |
Re: The best rock song of all time is.....
OK, you are reinstated, just for knowing that it's the inane lyrics and the involvement with a "Rock Opera" which stupefied me.
|
Re: The best rock song of all time is.....
That's a great selection from the modern rock catalogue, whether you're 20 or 10 or 50.
No need to apologize for that for which most would kill. |

Being 28 I wasn't exactly around when it came out. I guess this leaves Styx off the list too, right? I was going to mention Gimme Shelter, but wasn't 100 percent sure I had the title right - didn't want to risk further wrath from the collective forum. |
Re: The best rock song of all time is.....
Among the contenders-
Gimme Shelter Paint It Black Stairway To Heaven You've Got Another Thing Comin' (Heavy Metal division) Don't Fear The Reaper Baba O'Riley Behind Blue Eyes Train In Vain Under Pressure (does this qualify as rock?) Paradise By The Dashboard Lights (operatic rock division) I am sure I have left off any number of good tunes, but those are in the running for sure. |

"Jesus Built My Hotrod" is a novelty song, a gimmick, and is therefore disqualified. [/ QUOTE ] Novelty song! Says who? The rock gestapo? That song is a great modern rock tune that also gives a nod to artists of the past like Jerry Lee Lewis who paved the way for artists that came after. [ QUOTE ] You might be able to squeeze "Just One Fix" past the committee, though. [/ QUOTE ] While I love "Just One Fix and just about every other song Alain Jorgensen has cranked out, I wouldn't classify this as one of the greats of all time. The main riff, while cool, is kind of cliche. This is kind of why I prefaced my nomination by saying how subjective this whole thing is. Anyways, 'Jesus Built My Hotrod' is my nomination and I'm sticking to it. Cheers, Bubbagump |
