I didn't set goals but if you told me in January the games I'd be playing now, the old me would have been shocked.

Same here. I need to remember that every time I start to get a little too results-oriented.

I can't believe the original thread was 1 year old. Reading through it gave me a chuckle.

My goals at the first of the year were just to make 3k this year in b&m cardrooms and play some tournaments and make the money.

I didn't make a deposit until march online but I can say that I have a solid roll for multitabling 5/10 including taking out 1k a few times and my initial $50 deposit into partypoker so i'm pretty happy but that one. and I cashed for $27 in a $3 mtt on stars so I guess I completed that goal. I didn't post in that thread, but I did have a goal for 2005.

Up until this year, I had only been playing b&m (years ago I occassionally played on Paradise, but that's beside the point). I decided that once I moved into my new house, I would start playing online (I have a more than fulltime job, so I don't get that many hours a week to play). I had been played midlimits live (mostly 20/40) for a while, but online I wanted to start small and work my way up because from the posts here, I had seen that the online games play very differently (also, at the time I wasn't comfortable putting a large amount of money online). So I was going to deposit $2k and start playing 3/6, and my goal was to never deposit more and to be comfortably multitabling 15/30 by the end of the year.

I consider this to be a success. I actually am playing 10/20 6-max instead of 15/30 because I found that I perfer the shorthanded games.

I wanted to make 40k this year, but stupid school kept getting in the way so I couldn't put in enough hours. I'm going to end up short by quite a bit, but I have managed to move up from .5/1 limit on party to taking shots at 200NL. Hopefully I can make it my full time game by the end of the year. I've got high hopes for next year because I should be living in Vegas.

Re: How\'d you do on your 2005 poker goals?

I didn't post in that original thread, but I read it at the time and used it as inspiration to set goals for this year. I was playing 3/6 and 5/10 online and 15/30 live and so set goals of: Realistic goal--$50K, Ambitious goal--$100K. I also wanted to get to online 15/30 and live 30/60.

In July I reevaluated my ambitious goal and set it to $150K.

I have so far long passed all my monetary goals, and am playing 30/60 online and 80/160 live. So yeah, the year went well.

I'm not hesitant to set goals for next year because I can't see how I could possibly do any better. I'd be quite happy if I simply maintained my current success.

I love how poker players find every chance they can get to tell you how much they are up.

Who F'ing cares? How about a simple goal?

My goal was to read GSIH and SSHE and move from losing small stakes to at least break even. I met that goal and a bit more.

Re: How\'d you do on your 2005 poker goals?

my only goal there was study more, play less. im having a much better semester. i never played a lot. actually im disappointed in the hours i put in. well under 500 hours according to pokertracker. but considering my hourly rate for the year without rakeback is about 3 times higher than than my appeoximate "expected" hourly for the games I was playing on Jan 1 (5/10 6m), im pretty happy. i have started posting less which is a good thing.

My goal was to make 100k, and become a better poker player. I did both. My goals for 2006 is to be able to crush players that are at my level of skills at the moment.

Congratulations on achieving your goals!

Can I please ask how long you have been playing? How many hrs/wk approx. to make your 100K?

I am just getting started and trying to get a feel for what is possible.

Cheers,
Ian

Re: How\'d you do on your 2005 poker goals?

Did not write them in here - but I made it 95% of the way to my goals (in order of importance)

- Learned how to play online poker (was a B&M player exclusivly for 5 years) - had a couple of bad/very tilty experiences that kept me B&M before this year but was determined to make the online move. Started small (3-6) and now I am 3-4 tabling 10-20 6 max on my sweet 21” dells.
- Make a concerted effort to read and study every 2+2 book and spend lots of time reading strategy posts online – truly improve all aspects of my game (clearly not all the way there yet – but really feel that I have learned ALLOT this year)
- Earn 75K playing cards (online, off, tournaments, bonuses, etc.) – projecting to 69K now – close.

Could not have done it without this board – especially the HUSH forum – really I would be no where without the great insight and learning that is shared on a daily basis on that forum……THANKS (next year my goal will be to post more hands….)
