I'm happy you got rid of her. Sounds terribly controlling. It's very difficult to get some("most" probably wouldn't be a stretch here) women to be tolerant of gambling.

Like a few other posters in this thread, my gf was adamantly against it, having watched several of her relatives struggle through severe gambling problems. I made it quite clear that a. it would not impact my ability to pay for bills or fun activities with her b. this was(is) a hobby that I take seriously and will someday transform into a semi-lucrative part-time activity c. if she didn't understand a + b the door is thataway.
She's started to come around as I repeated this a few times (the 1k last week from tourney wins didn't hurt, either).

Doesn't sound like that would have applied to your situation, and you're probably better off. Enjoy being single.

Dude, thanks for the story. One thing that does matter though, is whether you are winning or losing, and from your last paragraph, it sounds like you are losing.

Anyway, this chick sounds like a douchebag, and it also sounds like she was looking for a reason to leave. You gave her one, and she left.

Trust me though man, you will get laid again. It might not be tonight, it may not me tomorrow, but you will get laid again.

admittedly i am by this definition a stupid person but i dont think this is right

getting married is probably close to irrelevant when considering the dramas that breaking up will cause

i like women who are hard units - prissy women just dont do it for me on any level - you shouldnt do stuff behind her back and you shouldnt lose the plot and chuck stuff - whether shes an irrational crazy women would be a decision best made at the table

I think you went out about it the wrong way. Most people don't understand poker. They see it as just any other type of gambling. You need to make her understand that poker is different from Blackjack, craps, etc. She was obviously very upset and you needed to do damage control. I have the same problem with my girlfriend (Although not as bad). I tell her that I play small stakes and not that often, and that I am a winner.

Maybe you weren't getting along and poker was the last straw, but it kinda sucks to think that poker was the only reason that your relationship ended.

I know the type. The person that deals with addiction everyday as their job. They "textbook" you over a lottery ticket or a beer on the sofa watching the ballgame.

Here's to hoping she falls in love with some other guy and gets married and for the Honeymoon they go to Aruba and he blows fifty large in the hotel casino!

Yes mixing your finances with this person was a gamble that the average person wouldn't make. Get immediate help for your problem and keep playing poker so you don't get so easily distracted next time.
