a similar hand happened to me recently... I had 99 though and folded, and regretted it immediately afterward.

I think OP should call, although it's a tough call in the heat of battle.

I tend to not give my opponents much credit in terms of logical thinking. I doubt he would have been able to figure out my line after 2 occasions and trap me, so I figured he was getting sick of it and called with Ax or a low PP. On the flop he probably hit a low fh and thought I was full of it.

I called after a bit. I figured most likely hands were 99-TT or 77-22 with the latter being much more likely. He had 44 and was drawing dead.

Not exactly drawing dead but very close. The unlikely perfect perfect would definitely win. I pulled it off a couple of weeks ago just playing around in funny money. 99 vs QQ. I raise get reraised, AAA flop, I push. Of course Stars rewards me after I say "GG" with running 9s....whoops.
