Why? Just cause it greatly reduces the chance he has a made flush or even just a draw?

Because I have a draw! If he has top pair I have a serious serious chance to win the pot! In fact the opponent had J9 and called, and I had a draw to win if a heart or 8 came (which it didnt). The difference between winning around 35%-40% of the time as compared to less than 10% when called is ridiculously signifigant.
