So does anyone actually know an approximate amount without trying to look like 'the cool guy' on the forum? I was wondering, too.

I'll take a wild guess:

Ignoring tournament wins (too much luck), these are my guesses on the number of guys/gals who can consistently make these figures year in/year out online.

High hundreds/Low thousands can probably consistently make over 100K/year.

Low hundreds (maybe below 100) can consistently make over 200K/year.

Few (no more than a dozen) can consistently make mid-high hundreds of thousands/year.

Now some of these guys play a very high variance game (HU high limit) and can run above average one year and make a ton of money, but will lose a lot the next year (or month). But I'm talking about their overall long-term expectations here.

I'm just wondering if anyone knows how much $$ some of the top online players earn? Take the top 5 guys for example. Are we talking $1,000,000 + per year?

Realistically? Hard to say. My guess is that there are a handfull pulling in upwards of a million a year, but I'd also say that the internet phenomenon is too new to know if they can actually sustain that on a year to year basis.

When Mike Matusow talks about dropping 400k or 800k or whatever it was in a few weeks online, you know somebody's there soaking that money up. What it also means is that there are games going fairly regularly where that kind of money can change hands. Which means that the big winners in those games are looking at six figure type years.

I read somewhere that GOT's goal for the year is 450k. How realistic that is is up to you to decide, but put it at somwhere more than a handful but less than several dozen making half a mil or more per year, with the same caveat about sustainability.

Now when you start talking how many are making really good but not eye popping money money, say 175-200k a year, I too would like to know, its hard to figure. I'm guessing its a lot fewer than could be doing it but for discipline and money management issues but I'm out of estimates there.

5-10 ppl over 1M a year.

20 btwn 500k-1M

another 30 btwn 200k-500k

another 200 btwn 100k-200k

That'd be my guess if you held a gun to my head and made me estimate based on my knowledge of others.
