Bad idea in this game. And why are you bluffing when you probably have the best hand and can probably get more money out of him?

Edit: This is why these hands shouldn't be posted in MHNL. It's not some snotty principle. You just won't get good advice on how to play a 2/4 hand from people who play 20/40.

I've played alot of 5/10 and 2/4 and the bluffs that are effective at 5/10+ aren't effective at 2/4. Value betting is where the money is at 2/4, i.e. this is low stakes poker.

I don't think he's bluffing. Usually when stupid/aggressives start making [censored] bets like that, they are weak and don't know what to do. He just wants to get a cheap showdown.

I thought I was bluffing...

So don't do stuff like this at 2/4, eh? I'll keep that in mind. At 5/10 this would've been good, maybe?

In my experience this is a losing play at 5/10, too. They will call with any better ace. But from his weak betting, it looks like he doesn't have an ace. So play your hand weakly and hope he calls a small bet on the river with worse than top pair. They will certainly make those calls.

Good to know, if they will be calling this with a lone A at 5/10 that leads me to another question.

I just started giving NL a try, I have about 8k hands at 2/4, and I'm quite sure I'm beating it esp since I played like a donk for lots of those. I've got about 30 buyins for 5/10, should I give that a try?

Thanks.

Craig

It's what you feel comfortable with but in general the 400 games are considerably softer that the 5/10s. Your choice, if you've got the cash and feel like you can beat it go for it.

The 5/10 generally plays similar to the 2/4. Only difference is that there are fewer geniune soft spots and there are a few people you should actually avoid. I would say to stay at 2/4 until you feel confident that you are no longer playing like a donk at all and then move up to 5/10.
