But, do you think you get a true measure of your ability or what works/doesn't work at a play money table?

While I agree it's prudent to be able to beat play money games consistently before risking real money, I don't agree that playing for real money is necessarily harder. A natural Poker player plays much better with real money, and better yet at higher stakes. Most people play worse the higher the stakes.

high stakes being a subjective term. I assume you mean that people play poorly when they play at a level higher than they're comfortable with. Ideally, the $ amounts attached to the SB and BB amounts should be irrelivant with respect to the decisions we make, however that's not always the case and this creates exploitable opportunities.

True: If you can't beat bad players you can't beat good players. However, play chips results are irrelevant. All play money tables are good for is learning how the action proceeds at the table.

True, but only if you adjust your playing style and you play to win and not gamble.

True or False
If you can't beat bad player's (play chips), how can you expect to beat good ones (real money)!!!

[/ QUOTE ]

Basically true; however...

There are certain types of players who can't beat play money games (becuuse they continually try to bluff and buy pots against players who will always call) but can beat a weak-tight lineup they might find in the upper low-limit games.

These players are NOT good poker players at all (because they don't understand why they're winning and they don't know how to adjust to their opponents), but by being a little more aggressive than their opponents, they're able to win extra pots with the worst hand.

Good point. I wish I’d said that.

Now I’d like to comment on another matter. A good player who has just opened an account at an online casino should consider using play money for ten or twenty minutes. Why not learn the mechanics of the site prior to having real money committed?
