1 stack red & 4 stacks white for $180 is my standard 3/6. 4/8 would be $260 (2 red & 3 white). etc. It only took me one hellmuth spill to figure out 1 full rack is easiest to carry around.

Mix it up. Try a pink chip and a Kennedy to make $3. This will really make you popular.

so I stacked 200 in the rack and left 50 to play, if I got down I just pulled another stack out.

That a good way of doing it. Any limit game, you might sit there a while, and you might have only say with $150 or less, but let's say you are up and doing well. Well then it can get crowded with all those chips. Esp if its a room with narrow table space.

I have played many 3/6 tables and sometimes its almost everyone is using $1, so you win a pot, you got stacks and stacks of $1's.

For one thing, a rack is irritating, for another, lots of cardrooms have rules about what can and cannot be on the table if a bad beat jackpot is awarded. (Some BS about hiding cards under items where the security camera can't pick it up.) You'd really be feeling the love if your rack on the table negated a $10k BBJ.

Any cardroom regular will bring this to your attention almost immediately. I know I always did. People were always leaving napkins on table. Whenever the BBJ was extremely high this got taken to an extreme. People were constantly telling each other to shut up whenever there were 2 aces on the board etc. Good times, good times.

Back when they had a card room, Mohegan used $3 chips for 3/6

The more chips the better is my motto. Buy in for about 5 racks of white. When the new players get there they will assume you are killing the game and maybe pick on someone else. I like to stack my chips in a square of 9 stacks with a square of 4 stacks on top and a triangle of 3 stacks on top and 2 stacks on top of that you play out of. It is about eye level which is just right.

Are you all crazy - reds make it go so much faster

i disagree. I am never in a pot playing 3/6 unless I'm raising so I get primarily red. easy to make it to 6 and only one chip in change for 3 bets with only 2 whites needed for the cap. people that say it is annoying to have a dealer make change must not play with the knuckleheads that take 30 seconds to count out 12 whites on a capped preflop...never mind watching them count 24 for the post turn action.
2/4 is a white game...3/6 is a red with some white game in my opinion

Limit hold'em should be played with only one color of chip.

Re: Do you get $1 chips for a 3/6 game at a casino?

I play 3/6 at commerce and everyone plays with $1 chips. Lots of people play out of racks which slows play, but is allowed (I guess). Some people buy in for as little as $40, but they tend to keep pulling $20s out of their pocket and lots of cash gets mixed into the chips on the table. Not only that, these guys tend to only have $20 in chips in front of them when they catch a monster hand and can't take advantage of it because they're all in by the turn. I prefer to buy in for $200 in chips - it makes a 4-3-2-1 pyramid and I never have to worry about rebuying chips. I find that having more chips on the table tends to give your bets slightly more respect and you will always have enough to take full advantage of a monster hand. If I win several big pots, people tend to need to rebuy so I sell them their chips back for cash.

I'm looking to hit up a casino for some 3/6. Do they just give you a whole bunch of $1 chips, or is it a mix of $2, $5 etc. If it's a mix what kind of mix of different chips should I get? Also, I'm assuming a 30BB buy in or $180-$200 is standard in this kinda game? Should I take the chips out of the rack or leave them in there? I was watching limit on Live at the Bike and it seemed like most players just left the chips in the rack.

Get all whites. It feels more badass to have 200 whites than 40 reds, and more importantly, 3/6 players suck and are more likely to call when there are more chips in the pot.
