Re: Culpepper may be out for season

Jim Souhan is a columnist for the Minneapolis paper who knows the team well. He wrote today that he doubts that Culpepper will ever return to top form:

[ QUOTE ]
...Culpepper has performed poorly this season, for reasons ranging from the loss of Randy Moss, Scott Linehan and Matt Birk to his already nagging knee pain.

If Culpepper hadn't been himself the past two months, this injury promises to turn him into someone else altogether for the rest of his career.

As recently as last year, one could compare Culpper to the quicksilver Michael Vick. As soon as next season, you might be comparing him to Byron Leftwich--a stationary quarterback with a strong arm and a spotty resume.

I'd say Culpepper has always been more Leftwich than Vick.

Or rather Leftwich is a poor man's Culpepper.

Just confirmed, Culpepper is out for the season. It sounds like his knee was torn up pretty badly:

[ QUOTE ]
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minnesota (Ticker) - Daunte Culpepper's nightmarish season is over.

Minnesota Vikings coach Mike Tice confirmed Monday that his star quarterback has a torn ACL, MCL and PCL in his right knee.

Culpepper suffered the injury following an 18-yard run on the final play of the first quarter in Sunday's 38-13 loss at Carolina when was hit by cornerback Chris Gamble.

It seems Culpepper will miss some and maybe all of the 2006 season.

The correct name is the "O'Donghue's Triad" or the "Terrible Triad." Yeah, it's the McGahee injury. Other ones that come to mind: Rodney Harrison, Trent Green, Michael Lewis (version Beerman).

Possibly inaccurate and incomplete list of FA QBs...

Jeff George
Quincy Carter
Chris Chandler
Shaun King
Jonathen Quinn
Tim Couch
Chris Redman
Rick Mirer
Jim Miller (injured?)
Danny Kanell
Chad Hutchinson
Jesse Palmer
Doug Johnson
Rohan Davey
Arena League/CFL QBs
and a bunch of pratice squad guys.

I'd go George, Couch, Redman, Davey. The rest, pass.

Quincy Carter is that guy in rehab or something?

He might have a four game suspension whenever he comes back. I don't know if he's still in rehab.

Brad Johnson is better than all of them.
